Lmao... I think we've already covered that this is not an arguement.

Ok... and? Is there some problem with the front drive shaft spinning? Because I'm pretty sure it's supposed to do that at some point anyway.

Drivability wise there is no real preceptible difference between running locked manual hubs and running ADD.

I think it defeats the purpose of manual hubs

@turbodb I ran Titus last weekend, definitely one of the most dramatic desert canyon's Ive ever been in. My neck still hurts from looking out my truck. Aaannd my new destaco latch cracked again, they are going to get me a stronger one. I will say destaco customer service is top notch.

Have you considered buying cheap shells and heating yours up, and swapping lenses?

Was that Dishpan? I haven't been on that trail n a while, but probably never going to run it again.

Well if you leave them locked in all the time, sure.

But even if it's spinning you're still in 2wd otherwise

No, not a problem. But not the same thing driving in 2wd with ADD, and 2wd with manual hubs locked.

One of the main arguments you hear for manual hubs is milage, but if you drive around with the hubs locked, it will be worse.

Drive in snow all winter and I would say this is a drivability difference between the two.

I understand your point of locking when airing down, but there lots of other time 4wd would be used in other circumstances.

I absolutely do not buy the whole manual hubs get better milage thing. That's a moot point for me.

Not suggesting driving around hubs locked all the time... just during those times of year (if in certain locations) where I thought I'd be using 4wd more often than not.

Sure, there are other circumstances for 4wd, where air down isn't needed. But I'm just never in much of a hurry when I'm anywhere near a place I need 4wd... so I just don't worry about the 30 seconds it takes to get out and lock my hubs, I guess.

I'm not trying to convince anyone to go manual, or that manual is better. Just giving insite from the other perspective here.

Manual vs ADD is totally personal preference. My manual hubs came from the ease it brought for my swap... but I can say with pretty clear certainty that had my truck been factory equipped 4wd... I probably would have swapped to manual anyway.

Having manual hubs helps the CV's last longer. Or if the boot is tore you can save tearing it more and shooting grease all over. It will also give you a whopping 1 MPG more.

We have 5 months of winter so mine just stay locked and I shift in and out of 4wd as needed. Come summer they get locked they I air down. Unlocked when I air up.

I find hubs locked vs unlocked for me is roughly a 3mpg difference. But that's just me. :boink:

    Part 2

...And then, a final fly-by. Just a single jet this time, and lower than all the rest - by quite a margin. He came tearing through the southern end of the valley as he banked towards the dunes, the exhaust obscuring the Inyo mountains behind the plane. Perhaps only 60-75 feet above the top of the dunes, the ground shook as he *gained altitude* in order to pass overhead - and then through the gap.

Add has bigger CV's, an easier to use system, no need to get in and out when you are dipping on and off pavement. Cons are of course a potentially failing actuator. But that can be said about anything, lockers, winches, tcase etc. Most people who want manual everything have never even experienced an actuator failing. And most regularly used and maintained equipment does not fail.

Manual hubs have smaller cv's, risk hub explosion, but does not have an actuator that can fail. Supposedly better mileage but I'd like to see stats. Run what you want and fuck everyone else. :luvya: Except mall crawlers and turd gens. Fuck them.

Well I finally listed mine for sale on Facebook. I plan to list it here on TW this evening. I don't want to do it but I need to pad my wallet some and buy new tires for the 2017.

    Not really.

The stub shaft is not that weak.

The Manual CVs are weaker purely because they are a lower spline count on the outer hubs. Plain and simple.

Most won't notice this but if you get into rock crawling territory and start using the front locker and such you sure will!

Manual hubs suck where I live. They freeze over all the time. So yeah, not fun for me.

But as I just said, they are weeker, not because they are thinner though. But Im sure that doesn't help.. It's that they have a lower spline count on the outer hub. And Im sorry. But you can not argue that lower splines are are better. Not for offroading.

Normal truck? Not going to notice.

You big fat over weight tacoma stuck in the rocks with the front diff locked? gonna notice.

Maybe not yet But at some point.

On top of that. Changing the CV in a manual truck is twice the work.

    yep. The SOB...

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

    Absolutely, positively, 1000% disagree.

I've done both... Sure, I have more nuts/bolts to deal with on Manual, but the ADD CV is 1000% more pain in the ass, simply due to the 175 foot pounds on the CV nut.

I can disassemble manual the hub with a 3/8 drive socket on manual... you're dealing with breaker bars and crowbars... and a torque wrench.
