It pretty much states to be in 4lo on page 253 of the manual. “Stop truck, shift to 4lo to see if this is sufficient, if not then ADDITIONALLY Use diff lock” seems pretty easy to read to me

Hey, Everyone wanted to get technical, What the manual says it what is says and no where does it say that you must be in 4L to engage. It says a bunch of other stuff but not that one instruction. It dances around it, it never says you can't engage in 2wd, it just says TRY 4L first. Oh, it also says it will disengage if SWITCHED OUT OF 4L to 4H or 2wd, much different than not being able to use the locker in 2wd mode.

OP doesn’t state if he has a 4wd or 2wd. But, searching his posts and seeing he posts a thread about it after a rehear has me lead to believe something else is afoot.

    Do you have a 2wd or 4wd?

If 4wd, give it a go and report back what happens when you try to use it in 2wd.

Ok, went and tried it, fucking thing is only usable in 4L. blinks red in every other combo.

Why not just state that in the manual?

    Step 1: engage 4L

The manual should not be throwing out suggestions. I know the locker is last resort and can damage shit quickly so why not be direct with it.

So all you manual readers can well........ you know

Maybe we are reading it differently but “use in addition to 4LO” and “ will disengage if knob is moved to 2H or 4H position” seems pretty clear it to me.

If it’s anything like the 4Runners. You have to be in 4lo to engage it. Try it in 2wd or 4Hi and all you get is a blinking light on the dash.

Even my old 2005 Tacoma from years ago I had to be in 4Lo to engage it.

No, everything worked fine before re-gearing. I swapped out the bearing on the mag switch side, but other than that it was a straight forward re-gear. Now I have a permanent rear locker.

I have a 4WD, and it flashes red on the dash in 2WD or 4H

I did the re-gear in house. Pretty simple procedure.

I’m going with this. Especially if a bearing was replaced in there

I don't know if it's the same on third gens, but on second gens you have to "lock" and "unlock" the diff by hand when you're removing and installing the third member. During reinstallation of the locker actuator, you're supposed to move the diff to "unlocked".

I am purely guessing here, maybe you didn't do that and left it locked. Finished up installation and now your shit is all confused because it's out of sync.
