Nope not at all. I've never used a torque wrench on that thing. Just a few ugga duggas and it's good to go. No breaker bars or crowbars just an impact......

Those Milwaukee’s are the shit. Got a Milwaukee electric ratchet for Christmas in 3/8’s drive. We upgraded to Milwaukee 3/8’s impacts at work. I’m sold on them. Kinda can’t wait for my dewalt stuff to shit out to start converting over.

Got to play in my first gen a little bit this weekend. The lady, the dog and I did a hot spring around Idaho trip this weekend and slept in the back of the pickup for 3 nights. This is the only picture that I took of the Tacoma during the entire weekend though.7C293FBA-7101-4562-8454-C4A7A954FCE8.jpg

Sure. I don't need it either

But you should. It'll change your life  That thing is tiny. Super easy to pack and will rip off just about anything. Makes working on the truck anywhere all the more easy.

And idk about you, but I can break the CV nut with a breaker bar in one good pull. :muscleflexing: So, Id still say that it's easier to get off than the manual. Plus if one of those cones seize it is such a PITA.

I love mine. I want to get the ratchet as well.

Should get the M18 impact at some point but shit dude. My lil M12 is a beast haha

    I beg to differ.

[IMG]IMG_1927 by Michael Halat, on Flickr

And I said nothing about running manual hub CV's. The sliding collar over the stub shaft has a little wiggle to it so it can slide over the stub shaft to engage/disengage easily. I feel that this play allows a vertical movement that puts the stub shaft at greater risk. So by running a manual hub tube you will have no sliding collar, just one intermediate shaft supported by the bearings in the tube. Again, just a theory.

Basically this would work similarly to the way 2nd gen's swap an fj tube on their Tacoma.

Lmao... I'm actually already checking prices on that thing :gossip:

Looks like it's a friggen game changer. The 3/8 drive has been good? Says it has, like, 250 ft pounds break away stength. If that's the case, I can't imagine needing 1/2 drive.

That only applies half the time. The rest of the time the "thinner" shaft itself breaks, at the thin part, beyond the splines.

Im trying to wrap my head around how this would impact the diff with the wheels basically being locked together the entire time..Which means the front drive shaft would spin the whole time right?

I haven't felt the need for the m18 1/2 yet honestly. Between the 3/8s stubby and the 1/4'' drive one I use them on everything as much as possible haha

True. The shafts are for sure thinner. Though most breaks I've seen have also been at the hub with them.

My old Jeep TJ had NO locking hubs and NO ADD, the front axles spun 100% of the time. Multiple references on Jeep forums stated that adding manual hubs did ZERO for fuel mileage improvements.

I swapped manual hubs on my 1998 Tacoma and saw ZERO improvement in mileage over ADD. Others may have differing results, but mileage was not the reason for the swap.

What is the proposed end product. ADD CV with no ADD coupler, everything spinning all the time?

    I see, I guess I don't get the why.

Jesse of TLT did that and "claimed" 18mpg at 70mph.
That was with 35" muds, 5.29s, armored to the hilt, pig of an Atlas, flatbed and the aerodynamics of a parachute.
Might have been a bit of a stretch, just a little.

The why is hoping it’s always the cv that pops and not the intermediate shaft in the tube. Or the stub shaft. A stub shaft breaks on the trail and it’s a pita to fix. If you can do a manual tube and carry a spare it’s an easy swap. And hopefullly after a couple trips of not popping that front tube I can stop carrying a spare.
