I was in that same boat that something had to be done to address the sluggish response off the line and initially I got the Shift Sense Pro thinking that it would help. It's been a great help on how it shifts, especially while flowing into or merging with traffic by keeping it in the right gear and not having to wait for the vehicle to have to think before it shifts down twice while I see traffic hazardously approaching me from the opposite direction. But when I added the Pedal Chip X it addressed that initial throttle response off the line and I was even more happy with the Shift Sense Pro after that install.

I truly fully agree with where you're coming from. It literally came down to the point of trading the vehicle in because it felt completely gutless prior to those mods.

For me it was a cheap fix, under $400 for both.

If you have more money to spend another alternative is going with 4.88 or even lower gearing. Depending on if you tow or have larger tires. I haven't done this and can not speak firsthand but I would certainly think it would help with those issues.

4.88s are the answer....but so expensive.

I have the same mods on my 2019 limited. These two mods made all the difference in the world. This is how the truck should have drove when I purchased it.

I won't be needing this anymore since I traded for a 4Runner. Obviously brand new, used for a few weeks. $125 shipped. I would absolutely not drive a new Tacoma without this thing.

Selling mine. Works well, but I finally got the tune. Original Shift Sense, but with the V2 chip. (I think I have the V1 chip too, which I'll include if I can find it.) $125 shipped or you pickup in 94022 for $110.

Do these work on 2020s? On their site, it still just lists up through 2019.

I asked above if these work on 2020's because manufacturer's website only lists up to 2019.
I picked up a 2020 yesterday and I just finished installing a Shift Sense v1 on it today.

For anyone else with a 2020: It works great, nice improvement.

Selling my SSP V2 as well after reluctantly buying the tune. OVtune makes a huge difference, but I have to admit that I miss the predictability and consistency of the shiftsense. DZcustoms did an amazing job with this simple device that every tacoma needs.
$100 shipped or picked up in OC 90630

I was in a similar situation. I just bought one and tried it.

ShiftSense doesn't say it supports 2020s, but I bought it it and it works fine in my 2020 (v6).

    Just a guess here, but...
Since it works by getting throttle position, speed, and current gear from the ODBII port, I suspect it should "work" on any Toyota product that:
    1) supplies those metrics using the same ODBII commands
    2) has the manual shift mode shifter with the same wiring harness connector.

I put work in quotes above, because the shift points may or may not be as optimal in other vehicles. But I suspect it will control the shifts successfully according to its shift map.

I thought about plugging it into my wife's highlander just to see what happens, but I didn't.

For anything other than a Tacoma 3.5 v6, I'd strongly suggest getting the updated version so you have several shift maps to chose from.

Anything is possible, but its hard to imagine how it could cause damage to the vehicle. Its just asking about vehicle state over the ODBII port, and activating the shifter. Again, just guessing here, but it seems like it should either work or not, but wouldn't damage the vehicle.

Of course my guesses are worth no more than you paid for them...

I don’t mean to hijack the thread but do you guys think this is a better fix than the OV tune overall, or is it just more budget friendly. I have been planning/ saving for the OV and just stumbled across this thread

This is an amazing budget friendly option to help the truck shift more predictably and reliably but it can only control shifting through throttle positioning, speed, and rpms. OVtune dives into every aspect of the trucks ECU and remaps everything, bringing the truck to life. The SSP was worth every penny and allowed me to enjoy the truck until I gave into the full tune
