    I believe I came up with 24” depth.

    I mean how deep do you want the table top? I’m assuming something like 24-30”?

    Other then big box store sheet goods or cabinet tops, you have a couple options.

    Edge laminated top;

    Or glued down to a top made from sheet goods;

    See above.

    If you don’t want to go sheet goods or cabinet top route, the laminated options above are what most of us would do.

    With out a planer it will take some elbow grease/time with a sander, if you want the top relatively flat.

    Once you have a method or type of top you want, we can help walk you through a more specific way to achieve your end goal.

    Gotcha! Alright. Yeah, I know I’m taking on something without the best tools for the job. My fiancées dad likely has most of what I’d need though. He’s a contractor.

    I’m not opposed to the sheet goods method, but how hard would it be do shape it to that bay window wall?

    As far as I can tell from your pic, it would be pretty basic. Cut your width after you have whatever method you wanted to use to create the basic top. Figure out your angle, the FIL could easily help with all of this and you would learn a lot more with him helping then just reading what we type. Anyways, once you know the angles, cut and butt them all together. There are several approaches to that. Glueing, using another piece of wood or brace and screwing from the bottom, biscuits, dowels, or pocket holes.

    Assuming you want the pic on top vs the bottom pic.

    Yes, aiming for something closer to the top, but without the drawer setup. The total length of said desk will be almost 13 feet. The left window side will be mine, right side will be hers, and the middle is where the possible drawers will go. As far as mounting it to the wall though, the only sturdy way I can think of is to have 2x4s coming off the wall diagonally and towards the front of the desk top.

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    You can get pre-glued pine panels at Lowes under the Metrie brand. You can double them up to get your width and stain them grey. They will look cheap though. They have butcher block in multiple species as well. Those are typically shipped to the store.

    Home Depot has butcher block style tops in hardwood also.

    Agreed. The problem with using pine or a soft hardwood like poplar is that you will leave indentations in the wood (even when writing) if you don't have a good, hearty topcoat.

    I would probably go the angled support route unless you found some steel floating desk supports. They are out there. With what you have on hand, I would probably do a mdf or plywood base. Then cover it with a nicer looking hard type wood, like the image below. That way if you mess up any angled cuts, the wood above will hide it. Then just edge it. Barn wood or old flooring (if you can source it) would give the rustic farm look you’re looking for. Honestly, if you get along, I’d ask the FIL to help. Great opportunity to bond AND learn from someone with experience. Again, we can only explain something so good in here. Depending on his personality, it might even mean something to him having you ask.

    I have a great relationship with him, he’s usually pretty busy though. So I didn’t see the point in asking.

    I’m liking the idea of that.

    You could build one with 3/4” plywood (not osb lol) and ripped 1x4’s then cover the surface with a formica laminate sheet for an easy smooth durable desktop

    little touches like these are nice

    ^This

    If it’s just keeping the same angle then I’ll use one but the digital is if I have add or subtract anything. Or if I’m using the miter saw. Just a dumb grunt here, remember?! lol
