I was about to ask you if you could hear the CV grinding or clicking as you drive. Maybe you popped it out of the hub halfway? You could probably give it a quick feel and see if the internals feel like the passenger side

    This.
Had a similar situation and was told the same thing by Toytec. I decided it was time to upgrade to a stronger shock.

dam.. Death Valley lived up to its name. Well if it turns out to be the shock then I guess it isn’t too big of a headache.

Looks to me that the circlip (ring) that holds the bottom spring seat broke/slipped and your spring is no longer attached to the shock body.

Welcome to the world of 5100s.

IMO, perfect time to move up to a quality shock.

seriously.. they’re not even that old.

ok, so for reference.. which is the limiter? The little ring at the top of the shock body?

The excessive droop has to come from the coil over somewhere. Busted limiter as others have stated? If the snap ring clip actually moved on the shock passenger would be sitting lower.

You can't normally see it, it's on the inside of the shock body.

Just a little tab that prevents the shaft from over extending. When it breaks, you can see a little broken weld where it use to be.

If you look at your picture. Above the second coil on the spring from the bottom you can see the grooves on the shock body. That is where your spring seat should be sitting. There is a ring that sits in one of those grooves that locks your seat in place. It is a very small bit of metal that supports a whole lot of weight. If it wasn't installed properly or fails for some reason, you get what you got. My money is on improper installation more than part failure.

    Look at page 2

There are multiple grooves on 5100s. It is recommended to be in the bottom groove if you have aftermarket springs, so you dont get coil bind. His is most likely installed on the bottom groove.

someone else thought the same but 4wd engages with no strange noises. If it was popped out I imagine it would be a pretty noticeable sound.

    Reserected from the dead.
    Subbed for results.

I too thought bent spindle and/or broke top ball joint. To be fair, I know fuck all about aftermarket suspensions for our trucks, but want to learn.

Make your mechanic take pictures if you don't do the repair yourself. I love me a good mystery.

Broken limiter on the shock body makes the most sense to me right now. I’ll check in the morning and chime in with what I find. Hopefully that’s the issue. Easy fix lol.

I dunno man, that upper ball joint looks like it’s rotated way too far back to me. I’d loosen the top nut and swing it forward 90* or so and see what that does.
