I'm not sure about the rest of you but I don't like my garage door remote hanging on my visor. I prefer a clean look and didn't care to pay $200 for a mirror that had a few buttons on it to give me that look so I decided to modify the remote. About $5 later and a few hours of modding, I had a hidden remote and a much cleaner look. The only downside that I can see is it still runs on batteries but I can't remember ever changing a battery in a garage door remote. I thought about doing a write-up but with all the different types of remotes out there, it would probably be more confusing. If you have any questions, let me know. Here are a couple pics to see what I did.

I don't know how to get the descriptions by the pics so you all will have to match them up...
Here is the remote's circuit board prior to modding.

Here are the parts from Radio Shack. (momentary switch-make sure to get one that is open and not closed and a LED which isn't required but I wanted one)

The three wires are soldered in place on the circuit board and all that's left is connecting them to the switch.

All done!!:bananadance: ...Well...before someone says something, I know I'm not done...I forgot to put the coin tray back in.

Nice!!! did you mount the little remote or is it light enough to just hang there?

    She's gone but not forgotten.
That's excellent! For the battery, my Craftsman remote uses a 12 volter, one of those weird little things. If yours does wouldn't be too hard to tap off a fuse under the dash.

I bought a HomeLink visor off eBay for $25 and ripped out the HomeLink module. However, I haven't had the time (or found the parts) to hook it up anywhere yet.

    Thanks guys...

I just tucked the remote in a pocket behind some wires. I thought about using double sided tape but that would make it tough to get out.

Hm, I need to look into that.

Mine has the computer console there.

We have two garage doors and you can't fit both garage door openers in there. I bought a homelink auto-dimming rearview mirror that has 3 buttons - it's nice being able to use the pocket for other things.

So if you get the compass and temp in the overhead it takes the place of the GD opener but they leave the sunglass holder that I don't use.
Seems like for the price a Homelink should have been part of the package.
My Rav had it and our new Camry SE-V6 has it. Next truck I hope it is an option.

I briefly glanced at it, but didn't spend too long... The site and parts list seems a little duanting if you don't know exactly what you are looking for.

However, I've been working on other mods lately, so this got kinda pushed back just a bit. I plan to look at it again.
