Just got a 2020 DCLB OR.......my previous 2011 Tacoma came with McGard wheel locks from the factory IIRC and the new truck doesn't have them.

Are you guys using them or rolling the dice?

    It's region based.

    Many do, many don't.

The mcgards have master sets but are fairly decent.

I actually remove them from our toyotas simply due to ease of working on them. But we have a low theft rate up here in igloo land.

Just lock your tailgate. Make it a habit.

I have always had wheel locks on all my vehicles with aluminum wheels. If a thief really wanted them though, they will take them no matter what. Its just a deterrent to make it a little harder to steal then ones without them. That is what insurance is for.

Save me a trip outside; if the truck is locked, is the tailgate?

No, not unless you or the dealer added a lock kit.

No. Not unless it's standard on 2020. Might as well get wheel locks too. It's only a few dollars. Chronics will steal anything they can sell.

Rolling the dice now. With my luck and experience, I’ve broke the lock and misplaced the key.

    do you need a set?

Wheel locks or locking the tailgate is way cheaper than my deductible.

Locks keep honest people honest as I was told many years ago:(

I park at a Boat ramp sometimes at night, I’ve got the Toyota locknuts, I know there is a master set but most methheads won’t have it. I lost the lug key to my Tundra, tried getting them off with a pipe wrench, no go.
Didn’t intend to make this a quote.

I have a Viper alarm and use wheel locks and splined lugs. I know a lot of people will say thats all useless, but when someone is hammering the locks off and sets off the alarm I’ll know and can do something about it.

Even if people say they’re useless and can be defeated, wheel locks will make you a harder target than someone who doesn’t have them. Most people stealing wheels are opportunistic, so make yourself a harder opportunity.

Also make sure to always keep your tailgate locked.

I got the McGard lock nuts on my taco and a viper alarm too. If you fold the mirror in or a loud car drives by with the alarm on, it goes off every time. It’s not an anti theft proof but slows people down or makes people move on to an easier vehicle.

OK, I grabbed the locking lug nuts from the dealer and ordered the McGard tailgate lock from Amazon. Like a gun safe; I just want to discourage the crack head slugs.

So here are somethings about wheel locks.

1.) they cannot be torqued with a torque wrench and they should not use an impact driver.

2.) if you lose the factory wheel lock key. You can use a 1mm smaller size than what your lug nuts are. To remove that wheel lock. Wheel locks only keep good guys honest and piss off the guy working on your truck.

3.) If your tire tech forgets to tighten your lock all the way down then when your wheeling or even just driving. The lock can fall off. Luckily you have 5 other ones.

4.) If you lose the key you will have to buy 4new wheel locks and if you lose one lock you again need to buy 4 new wheel locks.
