I originally got into Tacoma's when I purchased my 1995.5 paradise blue metallic truck 4 years ago. Since then I have kinda gone all in on Toyota 4x4's and now also own a 2018 TRD Pro Cavalry Blue Tacoma and a 2019 TRD Pro Voodoo Blue 4Runner.

My plans for the truck are to do some more basic things like sliders and a bumper so I can take it on the occasional offroad or camping trip with friends and family. When I want to do the more hard core off-roading, I will most likely take the old Taco.

Since getting the truck I have stripped off some of the factory garbage like the side steps and rear step. I then had the whole truck ceramic coated so the paint would be protected from all the salt and BS in Ohio. After that I bought some Cooper ST MAXX 255/85/16 (33.1x10) tires and picked up a soft tri fold tonneau cover. I also added a spacer to the front and a block to the rear so I could lift the truck while maintaining the factory suspension. Overall it was about a 2" lift over stock.

I just purchased some new add-ons that I hope to be able to install over the next couple of weeks.

    -OV Tune
    -Remote Start module
-ME-SO Customs minimalist key Fobs (Cavalry Blue w/red buttons)
-ME-SO Customs Vent ring kit (Cavalry Blue)
-ME-SO Customs interior Chrome delete kit (Cavalry Blue)
-ME-SO Customs Headlight trim plates (Cavalry Blue)
    -ME-SO Customs Ultimate turn signals
-ME-SO Customs DIY stealth shift knob kit
-ME-SO Customs Total Tail stage 1 kit
    -ME-SO Customs Ultimate map lights
    -ME-SO Customs fuse panel cover
    -ME-SO Customs left switch panel
-Taco Garage Low profile ditch light combo
-Taco Garage TRD Pro grill Raptor lights
    -Taco Garage 3D glovebox inserts
-Taco Garage Dashtop Single Mount DSM
-Taco Garage Front and backup camera anytime kit
    -KTJO 4x4 in-cab AC 120v 400w power outlet kit
-KTJO 4x4 Tailgate lock complete kit
-KTJO 4x4 Folding power mirrors DIY kit
-KTJO 4x4 HUD (heads up display)
-KTJO 4x4 Driver side a-pillar grab handle kit
-KTJO 4x4 OEM push button start (red TRD button)
-Amazon hood scoop light bar kit
-CH4x4 Toyota style scoop light switch
-CH4x4 Toyota style ditch light switch

Its going to take a bit to get all of this installed but it should be a lot of fun doing it.

Hi there I really like your build list so far and have the same Cavalry Blue TRD Pro Tacoma. I was wondering are those Cooper STmaxx tires LT255/75R16 or LT255/85R16 and do you have any rubbing anywhere? What spacer and block kit did you use for the 2 in lift?

Hey, I mistyped the tire size when I first posted. They are 255/85/16 which ends up being 33.1x10". I ran them for about 15k miles without any lift at all and never had any rubbing issues but some people say they have slight rubbing on the plastic fender liner. If that's the case you can take a heat gun and just mold the liner a little so you wont rub anymore.

As for the lift, since we have the Fox suspension, you don't need to worry about potential breaking a strut since they are much beefier than the OME off-road struts. So because of that I went with a 2" top spacer up front and a 2" block in the rear. I also bought a diff drop and installed that so my axles would be at factory angles again. The only thing about those spacers is you need to grind down the strut mount bolts a little so they are flush with the top of the spacer. You don't actually end up taking any threads off, just the top cone of the bolt. A couple of friends have been using this exact same lift setup while doing some hard off-roading with no problems at all. I have a link the the spacers below.

The closest I have right now is the pic below. I will try to grab a pic tomorrow of the side. It’s pretty level with the lift I have now, just a little rake which I want since it’s going to be a functional truck.

This week I have added the total tail light kit, vent rings, chrome delete, ditch lights, raptor lights, head light trim plates, ultimate turn signals, red TRD start button, single DSM Mount with my ram mount, remote start kit, tail gate lock kit and the ultimate map lights. I have more things to do but I might be spending the next week working on the old truck.

My trucks interior and exterior really need cleaned, let’s just ignore how messy the inside is lol.

Man those tires look amazing. I'm a few weeks out from bumper and front level and looking at mounting this tire. I've been warned about handling issues. Do you have any regrets? Thank you for your guidance .

My friend with the Cement Off-road pictured above has the same tires and has been complaining about how his truck likes to dart around the highway and constantly requires input to go straight at highway speeds. He has around a 2" lift with SBC upper control arms and has had it aligned many times by different shops trying to correct the issue. Maybe the tires are part of his problem but my truck drives great with them and I have no issues at all. While mine is a pro and his is a offroad, I cant see why that would make any difference since steering components are the same. Only thing I can think of is possibly the different offset in the rims.... or he just has some other fucky shit going on. His truck only has 25k miles..... so this shouldnt be an issue @HelloMyNameIs

What tire pressure are you/he running? This can have a large effect on how the truck behaves. I have a set of Mickey Thompson Baja ATZP3, which is the same tire with different tread pattern, and noticed when the pressure was too high It felt like it was jumping all over the place. I lowered the pressure down to 30psi and it all went away.

So I run 32psi warm and I just had him check the other day and he was at 39psi warm. I had him lower his down to 30 after it was warmed up and we are going test for the next week or so. If that doesn’t make the difference, then I’m going to switch tires and rims with him to rule out those as a possible issue.

Caster can play a role in this as well. If he lifted and had the alignment to factory specs it might induce some twitchiness.

After a lot of headache I was able to get my power folding mirrors working. Had issues where the driver side was working but the passenger side would not. All of the sudden when I was at a gas station and locked my truck and they both started working. Since then they have continued to work with no issues. I hope in the winter time, they dont stop again. It seemed like they decided to start working when the weather started warming up.

Still need to wire up the 120v plug on the center console along with setting up the anytime front/rear cam. Been putting off doing them since I have been spending most of my free time working on the old truck.
