Didn't sleep all night because of a kidney stone.

Took an oxy this morning (as rx'd!) and came to work.

Another guy called off because of a spider bite....

There appears to be a slight chance of snow in a week, but I'm thinking we might make it through this winter without a significant snowfall! Punxatawney Phil didn't see his shadow!

I know you were looking forward to using your snowblower though! :(

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
Craig once drove 2 and a half hours to install a grill (which took 10 minutes) and eat wings; only to turn around a leave.

Oooooooh, I'm gonna get my head bit off for this one, but it might make for some fun conversation. I disagree with this opinion. I'm all happy that you like off-roading so much, but I don't think that all state lands should be free and clear to just have everybody in the state or the nation just come traipse their froading vehicles all over state lands anyhow they want. Go have all the fun you want on private lands. My concerns would be the destruction of so much wilderness, hurting the natural resources, disrupting wild game, and most importantly a potential upswing in crime and then taxpayer dollars increasing to fight the problems that a willy nilly allowance of off-roading everywhere that's "state land". Think of it (as if this doesn't already exist?), that every meth-head, terrororist group, organized crime group, etc. could have all the more hayday to just go even less monitored anywhere they want to and set up their shops and trade out in the wilderness because they're perfectly allowed to go anywhere they darn well please after some kind of law like that is passed to appease some enthusiastic hobbiest people who want to have more places they can go off-roading. Let alone think of all the vagrancy that would be initiated by people who are homeless that could just go nomadic like that and set up their own shady shanties, and towns in all the back woods anywhere, or for that matter all the illegal immigrants. Can you seriously think of the logistic nightmare that law enforcement would have on their hands to let something like that go through! No thank you.

Criminals break laws. It's what makes them criminals. There is already rampant drug production in state lands because no one else is allowed to wander through.

Same, it is closer to 4 for me I believe. I also think, man I would love to join just because i have zero knowledge when it comes to working on my truck. That seems like the best way to learn about it. Maybe someday there will be someone on the western side of the state to do the same.

It's been awhile since we got together for one but myself and a couple others have had wrench days/weekends where we helped each other fix or modify our trucks. Myself teaching others and doing most of the work but everyone has to learn somehow, hands on wrenching with a good mentor is the way to go.

A bit extreme in your "the sky will fall" mentality.

I am not promoting a complete opening free for all druggy, terrorist, criminal, free-loading vagrant, tax-payer driven environment. For that go to NYC, Chicago, or San Fransisco. It already exist and more attractive to them.

But lets talk tax-payer. The tax-payer already owns the land. If you are a law abiding individual in PA and work, you generally pay taxes. So why are we not able to use the roads and land that is purchased with tax-payer dollars?

There is a balance in this effort. Right now there is no balance. DCNR locks the tax-payer land up.

I mentioned in my post that there will be State Representatives that will disagree and fight this effort. I should have included some tax-payers, people, and land owners as well.

I probably cannot change your mind, and you have a right to not appreciate the off-roading in the state of PA. But, just because you don't like it doesn't mean we are going to create an environment that you suggest.

What you did was create an extreme scare tactic. So be it. It makes no sense. I am willing to talk through this, but please be realistic.

The 98% of the people that have motorized off-road vehicles are law abiding citizens and will normally question many of the criminal activities you bring up. So I am pretty sure some sort of law enforcement agency will be notified.

Think of it this way, would you let any of that criminal activity take place? From the sound of your post, No. So why would any one else?

I'm in the middle on this. I really would like to have more options to be able to wheel and explore.
The good- It would give me a realistic option. I have one area that I know of that i can get my truck into, and it isn't posted. The rest are at least 2 1/2 hours away. Tons of awesome areas that could be opened up.

The bad-I do live next to quite a bit of state land, and frequent the national forest quite a bit. There are areas in the national forest you can access during certain times of the year, and others that are gated year round. This limited access has allowed me to hunt on public land, but also be fairly successful. I typically hunt at least 1 mile from the parking area, but have many areas closer to 2 miles in. If everyone had access to drive the roads to these locations, then they wouldn't be near as good to hunt. So from an entirely selfish standpoint it isn't a great idea. People don't care about what isn't theirs, with the exception of the tread lightly mindset. So I definitely see it turning into a free for all as DCNR, PGC, and maybe the FBC would be the most likely LEO patrolling the lands. The state police would also field a lot of calls, but would have a hard time responding to most.

As a tax payer it bothers me that DCNR has really nice roads through these lands, and no one else gets to use them. For that matter, they can quit using our taxpayer dollars to maintain a road we can't drive on!

I would support this, but only in a limited capacity. Maybe an area, or a trail system for use. I wouldn't want it to be carte blanche.
