Yeah. I know they are ALWAYS at the VA dropping or picking some old timer up. Looks like they give 94% to cause.

I was just going to name his too! 90% Haven’t heard anything bad about his org that I can think of.


Also the ol’ go to. Fisher House. 90%. Had several buddies use their services. One for almost a year when it lost his legs. Same guy got a house from Homes for Our Troops (might be Building Homes for Hero’s though).

Can’t remember, but I think he got involved right after 9/11. Dude is SUPER involved in vet related stuff now.

 

My grandfather was a Coastie from '40 to '45. Rode a horse up and down the beach all night at what is now Vandenberg AFB for 2 years (literally guarding the coast), and built LORAN stations all throughout the south Pacific for 3. Until he died he still had the tan he got in the Pacific that was exacerbated by the malaria pills they took. Complained about getting sunburned through his clothes. Always was having skin cancer patches carved off every year or two.

Grandma would giggle and announce (up through her 90s) that the only untanned part of him was his feet from his boots. Dirty old folks!

 

As far as I know, neither he nor Arnold Palmer went on any killing sprees.

 

Glad someone else said it so I can simply validate their statement. They were quickly chasing the livestrong logic that if you’ve heard of the issue, then we’ve done our job.

I second supporting the DAV, USO, and even your local VFW as they interact at the community level and press the flesh as it were. Check with your old unit as there may be a scholarship program for the kids of your fallen brothers.

 

Think he meant Jeff Bridges. Don’t think he caught the trend of naming serial killers that originated from the meme. Maybe thought @G.T. meant Walt Whitman.

lol That’s why I said not known for his poetry vs didn’t write any. It’s quiet possible he wrote some that would be out there.

Yeah, he climbed the clock tower and started throwing shots. I have a friend who’s father - Korea/Vietnam combat vet - was there that day and still sweats moving around in the surrounding courtyards because of it. Lives in Llano now and his backyard opens right up to the river. Great fishing spot and always great brisket to be had there.

 

Yeah I remembered what he did and that it was a college. Had to look up his first name and what college though. I don’t blame your friends dad, especially considering it was pretty unprecedented at the time.
