Didn't know you were in Catlett. My in-laws have a cattle farm near Elk Run and Bristersburg Roads, so I am down there often. Hoping to make it a permanent move in a couple years.

EDIT: Actually, maybe I did know that.

I would think the Warrenton area might be good to look at. It is still readily accessible to major highways/freeways, and generally a bit cheaper (both houses and taxes) than the surrounding counties (save for Culpeper). That might be changing soon if the real estate agents I talked to are right.

For reference, it takes me about 40 minutes from my house in Warrenton to park at Dulles.

I've been doing some thinking. I'm looking at the manner in which my SSO slimline is attached to the frame. There's the three small nuts on the front of the frame from the OEM bumper. And an ear that wraps around to the bottom of the frame and bolts on using a large bolt. I don't think there are any other attachment points. I've winched like this a few times with no issues. I'm still worried, though, that an offset or heavier pull will do some damage. I purchased the BAMF brackets, but the thickness of them added to the thickness of the plate of the SSO bumper is too much and I'd be left with no threads on the OEM studs. It's possible I could knock the studs out and get a long-ish bolt to run through there. I'm not sure there's enough room behind them to do this though. Another option is the C4 fab version, but I run into the same problem. I could cut the front of the CBI bracket off, but it looks like it might defeat the whole purpose.

    Anyone have any thoughts? Opinions?

I've spent some time thinking about this too. I bought the C4 brackets and they interfered with my resi brackets. I also bought the BAMF and while I got them on there I'm not sure they helped make it stronger or maybe they weakened it due to the lack of threads left. I know SSO commented on these brackets and said they didn't recommend people use them because they might weaken the design. I'm starting to think they might be right in this particular case (not for other bumpers). SSO has such a thick plate that bolts to the horns that I believe that is where the strength comes from. I don't know for sure since I've never seen one ripped off. I did buy a bridle strap from Treaty Oaks to help distribute the load across both recovery points in the front of my truck.

If you find a solid answer let me know.

The accident was almost really bad... I was driving around on side roads in the snow here in Ohio at school, and made a stupid mistake and almost went head on at the guard rail. Was just barely able to get it turned back around and the rear swung around and hit the guard rail.

No ticket, i pulled over, saw there was some cosmetic damage but nothing bad, the BSM is still even okay. It missed the tail light by less than an inch.

I was thinking the same thing, BUT if I order a bumper now, itll be ready right around the time I get home from school for the summer.

I do think it is best to just keep the accident low key, not wreck my driving record and bump my rates. I am going to do some more research though.

    The Dave’s,

dave #1 is right in thinking a strong winch pull is no bueno without extra reinforcements. Re: the short studs, someone makes a plate where you knock out the studs, and weld in 3 bigger, longer bolts. Can’t remember the diameter. This still doesn’t solve the issue of all that stress on that front subframe deal. The best is are braces that grab further back on the frame, but the bamf one is better than nothing for sure.

so, solution is get the longer studs and the bamf or some other bracket brace thing.

@EatSleepTacos do you have any insight on how accurate Mobtowns lead times are?

I keep looking at those threaded studs where the BAMF brackets go and I have no idea how you got those bolts on. I'm pretty certain the SSO mount plate there is 3/8" steel. I have Line-x on mine and that adds about 1/8" of thickness there. And I have zero threads showing on those studs. It baffles me that 1/8" would make that much difference. And say I didn't have the Line-x. The BAMF brackets are thicker I think. So I'd still have zero threads. Which leads me to think that maybe I did something wrong. I mean, I did install it by myself. That meant dead lifting it up onto the threaded studs. But everything lined up. And I have pulled multiple tree stumps with the winch. One of them was so deeply entrenched that it was dragging the truck itself. I've pulled two trucks as well. No issues. Nothing. So maybe SSO is correct?

I could gusset the frame horns for some strength. But is it worth it?

Dave, if I figure anything out (or break something), I'll let you know.

They’re pretty accurate. You’re looking at 16ish weeks for a Rear bumper.

If you can find that brace that'd be super. I may have seen it, but there was no description on its usage, so I don't know. When you say weld bolts, you're talking make the bolt heads captive?

From there, I'd probably purchase the C4 brace because it runs all the way back to the sway bar mounts. The longer studs would allow me to make it work.

I’ll have to dig and see. It’s some plate steel you weld on to reinforce the area as well as allows longer bolts
