I use the TP Tools house brand ones. Have worked well. Main thing is to just ensure they can handle the pressures and SCFM (the SCFM usually isnt an issue) you want.

Thats what I plan to get as well down the road. Currently I just have a "black iron pipe" U cooler dealie that between it and water separators just after collect a lot of water. But if i wasnt using it for blasting I wouldnt worry about it to much either.

I thought it was dirty metal or oil on the metal or even my welding wire or gas. So far I’ve cleaned the metal. Got new wire and just got a new tank of gas and still having the issue. I bought a thing to replace all the parts in the gun so may try that as well

I contacted miller and they are actually sending me a whole new gun/whip assembly. I also went to my local welding shop and had them order a gas valve/solenoid for me. Hopefully that works..

Im sure you've tried these, but possibly double check: end of gun whip is fully seated into the front of the machine, check o rings at the end of the whip, make sure liner isnt pulling out, check regulator leaking, check line from reg to gas valve, check line from gas valve to front of machine, check for pin holes in the actual welding liner, check o rings at bottom of the gun, check o rings on the back of the diffuser, check nozzle is in the correct spot (saw a video online about that), make sure all diffuser holes are clear(I'd imagine this would be more noticeable at certain angles). Most of these are what the miller tech told me to check while on the phone, super helpful.

I'd give them a call and see what they think, I spoke with Jeff. But ill also get back to you if I solve my issue, could be the same thing since the machines are very similar in structure

So what's the deal with cold rolled steel being more expensive than hot rolled?
Is there any difference when welding on it? I'm making some support brackets off 12ga. They only have cold rolled right now.

Did it come with the new MDX gun? They were having issues with this model when it first came out.

Hot rolled is cheaper to "make". Pretty much its like go from molten to the rough shape to being formed all while staying above its recrystalization temp. So it is easier to shape. Then you just let it cool. Cold roll pretty much takes a hot rolled source but then runs it through the final shaping while at room temperature. And then it gets heated again to get the proper grain structure again.

Cold Roll generally will be harder, have a higher tensile/yield strength, and be closer to actual size. Cold roll is great for machining purposes.

Im sure someone more into it can add more but thats the gist of it as it was explained to me

As for welding on it...not really IMO. Just clean the surfaces.

Cold rolled may have a different carbon content but they both weld the same to me. Hot rolled has always been cheaper cause it’s uglier. The scale can be a bear to get off sometimes but a grinder will take care of that.

Cold rolled is a lot harder to bend. I generally find it to weld better. But it’s also a fair bit more expensive. I used to use it for everything. Now I vary between it and pno hot rolled depending what I’m making.

Cold rolled steel has a lot of inherent stress (from the rolling process), therefore is subject warping when machining or welding. How much? as usual, it all depends.

I'm just making some bump stop can brackets. :fingerscrossed:

Dont cut that stuff with a plasma. We did hexchrome air testing at work on cutting stainless with a plasma cutter and the levels were insane high. If you have to cut it, put a fan next to it or use a vent trunk to keep that shit away from you.

    Simple.

    Weld hot rolled.

    Drill and bolt cold rolled.

I'm not gonna do anything that I know will deform the cold rolled iron.

With that said, the only thing I use cold rolled is for a straight edge.

Accidentally broke a very important thing that I was rigging at work that we rented that was supposed to shoot within a few days and had to take it home and fix it.

Luckily I had some 6” wide 3/8” thick aluminum flat bar sitting around at home and busted out the spool gun and rebuilt that aluminum support. Didn’t get a very good picture. Oh well. Used it on Tuesday and Wednesday and it worked great. It’s a motor for a special effects unit that we built for the TV show I’m working on.

Is yours still under warranty? I’m well over my year and may give them a call.

I thought the warranty was 3 years?

I just picked mine up about 4 months ago. I’d give them a call, they can check through the serial # on the back of the machine. Miller’s got excellent customer service too

Very nasty stuff. I had this setup just outside of our big roll up doors with a big fan blowing out and I still caught some fumes. I even think some fumes made it through my mask. At first, I did not know how bad the hex fumes really were.
