Is the hazard switch supposed to be illuminated with the panel lights? I would think that it should since my ECT switch is illuminated.

Mine isn't, and I am wondering if there is a replaceable bulb inside or if the whole switch would need to be replaced if I want it to light up.

Pretty sure it should be, yeah, perhaps only when the lights on. Probably just a bulb out.

You're likely going to have to take the dash apart to get at it. Up to you if it's worth it or not. Maybe practice hitting it with your eyes closed, lol.

    4 run, 2 don't
    There's a bulb in there? o_O

Mine doesn't illuminate but thought that was normal; the dash flashes not to mention the loud clicking. No way you can't tell your hazards are not on.

I know the switch should flash with the hazard lights engaged, but yeah now I'm second guessing myself if they illuminate (backlighting). I'll have to go home and check it out now.

Thanks for the info. The new part number is 84999-10320 and is a $7 bulb from the dealership. Now that I realize that mine is burnt out I had to order it.

    It's the little things...

This is on my list too for the next time I have the center dash panel out. It's pretty easy to get to the switch, and those plastic-mounted turn-to-lock bulbs are a piece of cake to change.

Those Japanese dash and indicator bulbs are organized by the color of plastic of their base. They're not that easy to find outside of the dealer. Candlepower is one source. HERE is a list to the different bulb types. (No interest other than having been a customer.)

I'm away from my truck these days -- the Gen 1 hazard switch has, what, grey bulb bases? And possibly two of them? Someone will know for sure.

The bulbs themselves are simply inserted into the plastic base and the leads folded over to create contacts. It's probably easy to find a suitable, probably identical, bulb at an electronics shop and re-install it into the base. I'd not throw away a base even if one has a new bulb -- toss it in the parts box for reuse.

Damit! This site "makes" me :spending:. I read this post last night, and made a mental note to check mine this morning....................NO LIGHT.
So I'm calling the dealership this morning to order. Appreciate you guys posting the part number.
Called and ordered, will be here tomorrow. $15 for that little bulb.....Damn my OCDness!

UPDATE to resolve the question that started this thread: Finally got around to replacing the bulb inside the hazard switch.

While as was at it, I replaced the bulb in the glove box with part number 90981-11018. It's only a $3 bulb at the dealer, but a bugger to get out. I had to enlist the help of my wife with her smaller fingers to be able to grab the bulb to remove and replace it from the small opening in the roof of the glove box.

Looking at the lights in the attached picture, I realize that I replaced every one you see. When I got my truck, the shift indicator, glove box and hazard switch were all out. The far right bulb in the cluster was out so I couldn't see my fuel level at night. The far right bulb of the climate control was out so I couldn't see the selector. Since I was in there anyway, I replaced all 4 cluster bulbs and all 3 climate control bulbs so I wouldn't have to do it again anytime soon. So I really only had 5 bulbs in the dash that worked when I got the truck....OK 6, the ECT switch was illuminated, too.

I removed the cigarette lighter for my subwoofer gain knob location, so I didn't replace the burnt out bulb for it. The only other bulb that I would still need to replace is the one inside the ash tray, but since never open it, I am in no rush to do that.

It's funny how all the bulbs were burnt out, but then again the truck is almost 20 years old now. Hopefully these bulbs will last as long as I have this truck.

so how does your bulb go out, do you do a lot of night driving?
do you have the dimmer switch to full and the brightess of illumination
OCD can lead to high blood pressure (i think)

did the bulb you get, is it a red one?
i have the awful greenish light hazard and would like to change it to red at some point like in the pic above

OCD can lead to high blood pressure (i think)......this is probably the correct answer in my case.
Honestly, I didn't even think about it until I read this post and checked mine. Sure enough, it was out! I've replaced it and all is well within the world now.

Later 1st gens (2001-2004) have red-orange interior lights like pictured. Your earlier 1st gen has green interior lights.

Some of the bulbs have a condom that gives the bulb the tint and some of the colors come from the plastic behind the switch/gauge. You'll have to pull yours apart to see what it is and if you can change it. I don't think you can without getting a entire switch from the later 1st gens.

Are you sure your hazard light is green? I thought they were always red. Do you have a pic?

Here is the dash lighted on my 95 - that little green triangle above the A/C control is hazard lights switch. I have replaced bulb with white LED in there but the switch film coloring made it green (same as it was with incandescent bulb).
