I have a 2020 taco and made this bike holder using the tiedown cleats. I used a piece of 1 in sq aluminum. Pretty simple and works with my road bike and 29er.

I like your setup. I put my road bike under my tonneau cover after taking the front wheel off. Early in the AM headed out, from the hotel, to a triathlon it would be sweet just to load the bike up ready to ride. I could easily set up the bar the night before etc. I do like it.

I do still have to leave the tailgate down. I like keeping things simple. It used to take me 30 minutes just to load up my cycling gear.

I am thinking about getting a hitch mount rack. I would only use it in the morning to drive to the triathlon event. After and before I will take the wheels off and put the bike under the tonneau cover. That way I can have the bike all set up the night before, just add air once parked at the event.

I thought about getting a hitch mounted carrier too until my buddy got a stupid ticket for license plate obstruction, decided to go up high after that.
