    Still thinking about it.
I'm nearly 50 now, but when I was younger and in Arizona, the thing to do every weekend for us was to throw the camping gear into whatever rig I had at the time and head out for a night or two. A truck, a cooler, a tent.

Now...it's called OVERLANDING. This word is everywhere! In the magazines, websites, etc..

It's just a money grab by vendors, in my opinion. Recovery boards?? Come on guys. This is nothing new. The business of it is. Don't be a sucker.

    Pile on :)

I always thought Overlanding was was walking over land, because I did some thing stupid in my truck?

That or over shooting the landing site while jumping my truck.
Lol....ok. Ok, I won’t bring that back up this soon.

I agree with you but I think you are thinking of Weekend Warriors.

Overlanding by definition is more complicated

You could just ignore marketing trends. It would improve your sanity.

I thought an overland fire was parking on tall grass after the heat shield rusted off and fell off your cat.

Lol. Hope I didnt come off as antagonistic. The overland thing is a little silly, but sometimes i think the backlash is even sillier. The jokes do come easy, though.

Recovery boards have saved my ass a few times but I don’t understand this trend to drive around with an entire household kitchen in your vehicle

There always has to be a next mass pop culture thing i.e. Bikes, Muscle car, Comics, Prepping.... Have to keep the mass consumer economy going, lol.

I have been apart of some of the Expo group for over a 10yrs and like you been camping for decades. It has made for some cool products to come to the market though. I remember my first recover boards were made from wood that I copied from a 4x4 magazine article in the 90's

    Microtransactions FTW!
Seriously though you see it in all aspects of life now with internet shopping, etc. My wife used to make do with a blender and a toaster.

Wasn't shit like this taught in drivers ed? Maybe he just burned his jeep for the views.

Edit: I want to say "kids these days" but this guy is too old. If I had a kid, I'd pop their valve core at work. And if they can't figure out how to change a tire.... sucks to suck I guess. But also it would be a failure on my part as a parent. So I guess I don't have anything to worry about in this area.

My niece got a robot/auto tea maker a few years back... it was then I knew the planet was doomed.... when boiling water on the stove and putting a tea bag in the hot water has become to much of a burden on life.

Good stuff! Thank you all for chiming in. I can see how recovery boards could save your butt in certain situations, but all I see is bright orange plastic ones riding around town on trucks that won't need them.
