Did you use the stock shocks or replace them for lowering ones?

I have not done my drop yet or I would have a bit more insight for different springs probably! There really is just Chassis Tech or Belltech, and maybe one more generic builder when searching for these coils on the bay. From what I heard, Belltech will give you the more compliant ride.

However, stock length shocks will work though it may be a good time to replace shocks if you haven't in a while. Then again, if you change springs and shocks it may be more difficult to gauge which parts affect your ride. This all said, I plan to change springs first to see how they feel and likely will be adding shocks in the near future afterwards to smooth out the handling. I slapped together all I could find so you/and all can weighs the current options in both 2" and 3", see the notes where the give you the approximate drop based on your model (also see brand, the top 3 are the generic sellers listed every company that ever made drop springs just about!):

And here is the links to parts above, in order. Wish I would have grabbed the prices for each above but they vary from $100-$170 roughly):

What shocks did you get and how did it impact the ride?

I went back with some basic ones from my dads wholsaler. Just OEM replacement. The front rides better but I can tell I need rears. Just do them when I lower it.

Better is good! Since you did the shocks first you will be able to gauge how the springs you choose effect the ride up front too.

I took a closer look at some stock coils from a salvage yard today and found they are not really the type of coils you want to cut safely, and I like safety kinda. They have one pigtail end and one squared end. You really only want to cut coils if they are the tangential type from what I read, see below for reference.

This is getting me to rethink my direction, I want close to a 3 inch drop up front but not sure if I want to do the ball joint flip hearing some stories of bump steer. Could be worth trying for myself though since it's cheap enough. Or maybe some one can lend their experience on the flip and how it drives here if they feel like BSing!

I may be leaning towards getting some custom coils made by Deaver to improve the rate anyhow for better handling and get my exact desired drop.. and think I will give them another call to discuss a bit further since they are going to re-arch my leafs anyhow.

Hey guys, I have the sos performance flip kit on the rear of my 2000 tacoma lowering it about 3”. About a month after lowering it started squeaking only while going in reverse. Im guessing my pinion angle is off and it messed up the u joint. Anyone know how the angle should be? I have the double cardigan drive shaft. This is a prerunner btw (6 lug not 5 lug)

The sos kit is made so you keep correct pinion angle . U-joint greaseable ? Try greasing .

I tried greasing them but it seemed like only the u joints near the center support took any grease. I’ll try again with a better grease gun, but maybe the u joint at the axle just needs replacing. Thanks for the input hemintruk

I am no expert, but the pinion angle to driveshaft looks almost perfectly straight to me. Maybe try some spray lube on the pivots in addition to greasing them zerks before replacing stuff? Maybe you are using the brakes while reversing? Not sure if it's the u-joint why it would only squeak in reverse...

Called up Deaver Spring today to "BS about lowering" my first gen 5 lug. They start with the factory coil spring part #'s and specs, discussed my needs, and are going from there to speak to their engineers to confirm what I am asking is feasible and will achieve my goals, maintain alignment specs, etc.

I am looking to drop 2.65" in the front, and increasing the spring rate somewhere between 30-40% over stock. I want to increase handling performance but maintain a street-able ride. Waiting to get words back on feasibility and cost, then may be placing the order soon!

Once I get the front dropped and see where the truck stands, I will be having them re-arch the rear springs until I get an almost even ride. I want just a slight rake with a dash more height in the rear to load her up when needed. Maybe this will end up somewhere around 3.75" but we will see once the front is dropped first.

Plenty of room to lower it seems, check her out below..
    20200227_155414.jpg

Think it's time to order some Bilstein shocks and get those in to see how the truck handles with those prior to the drop.

Anyone else drop their Tacoma lately?
