Sorry but not true, 0:44-0:46 watch again and again and you will see front right coming down on the ground. You dont see to much of transition but thats because there is no jerking and tire rotates with the same speed as others (lockers :D)

A-TRAC comes with our truck... a front locker does not. Can't we celebrate what Toyota has added to the Tacoma? I mean it has been available on their other models for 10 years... Of course they have improved it... When it is shown how well A-TRAC shines and somebody posts right below, that he recommends the O/R Taco TRD because it has a rear locker... I just wanted to ask why is A-TRAC so hard to understand or why is it so resisted by those who DON'T KNOW IT?

Thank you ... Stay Off Road, My Friends!

I don't question front and rear lockers are best, but our trucks came with a rear locker and A-Trac, it's there and it helps ;). How far would the 4 Runner had gone up that hill on just open front?

FWIW Lockers in snow isnt that bad if you know how to drive in the snow.....

ATrac is definitely awesome and works great from what i see. But, for the price difference from the base to a trd OR imo its not worth it...

Also, FWIW the base model tacomas with the auto lsd front and rear works pretty damn good. Ive gone places with my truck a trd or with locker and open front cant do...

Also, to the comment that a lunchbox locker is a poor mans locker, how so????

Not quite, imagine your vehicle on iced hill where each wheel has only usable traction to handle 150 ft -lb torque. Combined thats traction to handle 600 ft-lb of torque. Now your truck will need to apply torque of 500 ft-lb to climb up.
if you brake two wheels you only get 150 + 150 usable traction so thats less then 500 needed. 3 wheels will get you 450 still not enough
only when all 4 wheels work as one they will collect 150 x 4 = 600 and 100 more then was required.
this whole A-trac vs lockers is like 2wd vs 4wd. Does it work?, Yes Is it one substitute for another? Nope.

KM2s, which may throw a variable into the game, but hell...someone can always say you greased your driveshaft more recently, or I just cleaned my air filter...can never get a 100% match. Real world, this is as close as it's going to get.

oh.... the definition of "poor man's locker" is using the e-brake to aid in traction...so i was confused...

Basic point being, added front traction is a plus ;).
Does auto lsd work in 4lo?

Still not accurate, because the locked wheels that are slipping aren't applying full torque, so your math doesn't add up there either.

Again, I'm not comparing lockers vs. A-TRAC as better than one another...just different. I do, however, take issue with your incorrect logic.

Ok here are 3 LC's with different systems (LSD, Traction, Front rear lockers)
    Part 1

    Part 2

Atrac is better then nothing but compare to F/R lockers and simply not even close.:)

Did you notice the difference in the momentum used on the first two runs compared with the third?

No, not without the mod. 'AUTO LSD' is just the name Toyota uses for 'TRAC' (limited slip) without any engine regulation... in 2WD.

The limited slip in High Range 4WD is also called 'TRAC' by Toyota, but it is really the same as AUTO LSD and not like TRAC in H2, because in H4 there is no engine regulation.

In L4 there is NO limited slip other than A-TRAC (available on the Off Road TRD only).

Those with Sport or SR5 4WD Tacos who want limited slip in low range can do the mod to get TRAC (AUTO LSD) to work in L4... and they report amazing improvement in traction!
