295/70/17

Update. Tires are on. Will update how much trimming needs to be done to fit them offroad.


Just order some 295/70/17 mud tires. I'm on a 2.5" front and rear lift and I have JBAs already on the truck and have CMC plates sitting at home ready to weld on. My alignment shop said they might be able to fit them without a chop so I'm holding off until I see for sure they rub off-roading.
I also have a pretty aggressive bumper chop, cuz why not lol.

Anything I'm gunna need to do to prepare for mounting or should I just wait and see what rubs?

 

Wait and see but I would bet the cab mount is going to rub close to full lock

 

On 265/70/17s I'm about 1/2" away at closest point but that's on flat ground

I also think I'm only at about 3 degrees caster at most so maybe they can squeeze a little more out of the JBAs.

 

How bad you rub will depend on wheel specs. I had 295/75r16 and I had to do the cab mount chop as well as fender liner/fender trimming. It’s really not a huge deal. Cut the mount, plate it, weld it, good as new. I cut the fender and fender trims very meticulously with a small Dremel. Took my time and made it as hard to notice as possible.

 

You may also find that you wished you just went with the typical 285/70r17 as they are just going to fit better than the 295s and there’s always going to be more of those sized tires available in case of blowout or damage on the trail leaving you in need of a quick fix. Have a full size spare and call it good.

 

Great advice! I'm going to see how I like 295s.
I went with 265 right off the bat and always wished I went with 33s so when I decided to get bigger tires now I knew I wanted to go with bigger than 285s because I would inevitably want bigger tires so I think 295s will hopefully be a good balance of bigger with minimal fitment issues.

I'm running 17x8 wheels with 0 offset so I'm thinking those specs will help to limit my rubbing issues.

 

It's like Tetris tryna fit everything. Tires finally in. Will be mounting them this Tuesday so I will update fitment issues for on road use within the week and offroad use within the next two weeks. Probably gunna go ahead and do the CMC this week because why not.

 

295/70/17 on
Caster maxed and still have a little rubbing on passenger side rear of front fender well plastic under compression and cab mount. Will be doing CMC asap.

 

Just installed 295 70 17 Toyo MT with zero rubbing or trimming. No wheel spacers

 

You'll probably rub at full compression

 

How much lift are you running in the front and what UCAs?

 

Great size and still goes in the spare. I just moved away from it tho.

I have 17x8 0 offset motegi trail lite on 295 70 17s, i did CMC and heated back fender liner to push it back, they got close to rubbing, just did it to clear when tire tucks up at compression

 

How high is your lift and what kind of mpg do you get nowadays? I have the same truck, same year and trying to upgrade to bigger tires from 285/70r17. I already have a cmc I was wondering if there will be any additional trimming.

 

Hey how did this tire size and wheel combo work out? I have 285’s and wanna go bigger and have the stock 17” trd pro wheels like you. Did you ever have any issues ? Thanks
