Thinking about attending OE this Spring. What do I need to know from a newcomer perspective? I'm familiar with the area as I was once an Arizonian(is that a word?), Kingman to be exact. Thanks all.

    I live in Flag.

What are your plans? Will you be camping on site? Will you be camping in the woods nearby and driving in everyday? Will you be staying in a hotel?

Pump me with some additional information and I will be able to give you a better response.

    I’ve gone twice

I’d highly recommend the experience pass so you can attend all the sessions. The training from 7P is excellent

if you get the weekend pass, there are some free sessions and access to vendor land.

I’d definitely camp on site. Get in line early to get a good spot. People will line up well before gates open.

come prepared as if you are camping off grid, water etc. the porta potty’s ran out of tp more than once, so bring a roll. The ones on the walking path see way less use than the ones in the campground.

Plan is to camp off site and drive in everyday. I want to explore the area and do a little climbing (hinterlands) and some mtb biking. I'll be living out of the truck and have it is equipped to be remote and self sustaining. Thanks for your time and insight!

I live in flag and have been going to the expo since it was at mormon lake. Ft Tuthill is the venue now and for the past 7 or more years. Close to town and close to forest access. The nearest forest access is to the immediate west called woody mountain. Great camping and some mountain biking trails. Namely Roger's lake loop. Fun, rocky single track and very close to Ft. Tuthill. In fact, the Ft. Tuthill Soldier's trail connects with Rogers Lake loop via the Flag Loop Trail. This is primitave, dispersed camping on the Coconino National Forest land. No facilities. pack it in, pack it out.

The Expo itself, in my opinion is... a car show! I'd rather be out doing it than seeing the latest off-road camping gadget Seriously, I've been a commercial overland guide in southern utah for 12 years and our back country rigs service 8 people for 4 days over gnarly terrain. I do an average of 20 trips a year and I can tell you that most of the rigs you see at the Expo would fail miserably with that kind of use. Anyway, a little hate on my end and yes, I still go every year, mostly to lee what not to do. That being said, some of the clinics are useful, and the crowd is friendly and fun to drink beer with.

I kind of expected this. I mainly want to explore the Flagstaff area and drop into the event just to check out the scene and cross it off the bucket list. Thanks for the insight!

How far is lake Mary from Ft Tuthill. Any campgrounds or dispersed camping around there?
