I was under my truck and saw an electrical connector with nothing connected to it. It also wasn't covered or anything. I looked inside and it does have three pins.

First, does anyone know what this connector is used for?

Second, why the heck is it uncovered? I wrapped electrical tape around it to keep the elements out.

Just a heads up to check it out next time you are under your truck. It is on the left (driver) side, inside the frame and back by the bumper. It is black and next to the white connector going to the left license plate light. Pics for location below.

What package do you have on your truck? It may be related to the rear parking sonar if you don't have that. Just a thought.

It's a connector for an option you probably don't have . It's all over the vehicle.

That makes sense about the parking sonar. Thanks,

I still wouldn't have left it open to the elements. Toyota should have capped it somehow.

It's not being used and therefore doesn't need to be covered. It doesn't matter if the pins corrode because it's not being used.

Sonar is on military ships to detect submarines. Sonar is not available on Tacomas. Ping... ping... ping... lmao.

Just using the term Toyota uses "Rear Parking Assist Sonar." That's what they called it in the Premium and Technology package for 2017.

The more important question: Has anyone tried to retrofit this option?

It is a sonar. When you back up it sends a ping to detect objects behind you. It beeps when you get close. What should it be called?

It should be called a fishfinder, because they use sonar too.

It should be called a sonar, just like it is called.

    It was a joke.

Toyota also calls a driveshaft a propeller shaft in Canada. I've never seen a propeller on a Tacoma. I heard that Canadians are different though... that's another joke btw.....

I saw these at pepboys one time. For the record, this is not my truck or anyone that I know.
