Finally received an allocation date for my 2020 OR, but I find the dealer ordered it with the LED headlights.

Could someone explain the difference in the wiring/connectors/etc between the OEM projectors and the OEM LED headlights?

If I wanted to revert to the projector headlights, what would be required besides the housings?

once you turn on the OEM headlights at night, you will forget about projectors. New OEM LED lights are great

ehhh... I'm sure the lighting is great, I'm just not thrilled about the appearance of the LEDs. IMHO, it looks like some sort of futuristic TRON Cybertruck thing rather than a normal pickup truck.

Also much prefer round offroad lights rather than LED light bars.

[preparing for the inevitable "ok boomer" comments.]

Or say I wanted to swap in some funky aftermarket headlights...

In the wiring harness, at what point does it switch from being universal to being "headlight option specific"? Or is the wiring all the way up to where it connects to the bulb/housing identical between the projector and LED options?

It the wiring the same up to a connector, then there's a little pigtail that has either LED or projector connections? Or is the entire harness unique and would require cutting/splicing to make a change?

LEDs have a single connector compared to multiple for the projectors. There is a guy here who makes a projector to LED conversion, you could ask him to do a LED to projector version.

Are the connectors all one piece with the rest of the vehicle wiring harness, or are they a pigtail which can be disconnected/swapped from the rest of the harness?

The sales guy at the dealership owns an early 3rd gen TRD Pro and he's also mentioned interest in a swap.

I'll probably eventually end up keeping the LEDs on, but I'd like to figure out my options.

I asked the same question for the reverse install, LED in to my 2017 with projector headlamps of @Jeff Lange . He said that the vehicle harness has a different part number depending on the headlamp equipped so that would mean some sort of an adapter would have to be made.

That's crazy. Two entirely different harnesses versus having a single harness with a connector where either the LED or projector pigtail could be attached.

So now all the dealership service depts have to stock two different harnesses.

I should really have been consulted when Toyota was designing the truck.

Until you turn on a legit tuned retrofit with OEM quality bulbs and ballasts, then you'll forget the LEDs :D

My guess is Toyota purposely designed two wiring different harnesses to help keep the LED lights exclusive to those who ponied up $485 for the LED headlights option.

The led lights are well worth the upgrade.

In order to go backward, you'd have to make an inverted version of the harness in my photo posted above, but still, it's likely that the two side marker lights where Mike Eggers supplied the two dead end plugs for would not have the wiring for in your new truck as that function is now part of the light unit itself. In effect, there are two leads that are used in the projector assemblies but not in the LED that would have to be accounted for. I agree that once you drive with the new ones you really won't want to go back. Who cares what they look like when perform so much better, plus you can't see 'em when you're driving. And no one else gives a shit about what your lights look like. Form Follows Function. Form Follows Function... Rinse and repeat.

^^^^^^Forget about the looks, it’s about illumination performance after the sun goes down. I have had both, I would never return to the halogen projector headlamps.
