Hello all. Looking for input from anyone who owns a Grand Teton roof rack manufactured by Sherpa Equipment Company. It uses an all aluminum design, a unique roof rack mounting system and is cut from hefty 1/4” aluminum plate.

It’s apparently not quite as popular as Prinsu/Victory racks so any input would be appreciated.

Talk to @Ripcord about them. That's his truck in the picture. I'm not sure if the owners of the company are on this forum themselves. I'm sure they are, I just don't know their usernames.

On the fence between theirs and the Uptopoverland, don't like anything else on the market right now.

Thanks for the input. I like the Grand Teton rack-to-roof mounting method with the rubber spacers. Sherpa say you don’t need to apply silicone/RTV when mounting it. My only con is that they use ugly hex bolts to mount the crossmembers instead of button head style. I agree that it would be stronger if they bolted to the 1/4” thick rack instead of the crossmembers.

I just installed one but bought it from a guy parting out his Tacoma so can't comment on ordering from them. Any specific questions?

It looks great and I've gotten quite a few compliments on it already. Wind noise exists but all roof racks like this are windy.

Do you have the bulb seal on the front fairing to reduce wind noise?

It looks aesthetically similar but they mount differently to the truck.

By bulb seal do you mean the edge trim? Yes it is on there.

They are. Will offered me a TW 5% discount code (TACOWORLD) towards a rack.

Mounts to the extrusion are stronger than mounts to the side plates. Aluminum side plates are not weight bearing. I had a Sherpa rack (sold it because I’m building a camper) and at one time we had like 7 people on the roof of my truck with no problem at all. They used my truck to design that rack, and I promise you it fits and looks better than the other similar looking racks on the market. Plus the rubber mounts eliminate the need for sealant on your roof. And the edge trim on the fairing comes standard. If you have any questions give them a call. They are awesome guys to work with. I would love to hear what the member above that said they took forever to ship actually experienced, because as long as I have known these guys they have listed very accurate lead times on their website.

The cross members are significantly stronger than the 1/4inch side plates.

I had a Sherpa rack on my truck for about 6 months. Loved it, just didn’t use it, so sold it to someone who would get use out of it. The thing is beefy, strong and solid as a rock! Fits like a glove and follows the roofline of the truck seamlessly! I stood on my roof multiple times with no worry or issues. No leaks into the cab from the mounting locations and little to no wind noise. Great option if you need the utility! The guys at Sherpa are great! Easy to deal with, communicate with and answered any and all questions I had before, and during ownership. If I actually used it instead of my bed, I would still have it.

I just installed a Sherpa Grand Teton a few days ago. It's solid as a rock. I have some wind noise at 50+mph but I need to add some of that tube edging prinsu sells so I bought some. We'll see how that does. I also have an ARB awning and mounts so I can post that pic if anyone is interested.

I didn't realize applying sealant was so hard for TW users.

Could you post pictures with your awning too? I'm looking at getting one of these racks right now.

Sure. It's the 6ft ARB with the light option. I bought the mounts from sherpa with my rack and I'm only using 2 mounts. For others: I also fixed the wind noise by dropping the front plate down. I didn't use the prinsu edging because the channel was too thin for the Sherpa plate thickness. Let me kmow if you want a close up of the mounts.

This is a really helpful thread. I did not know about this rack until I saw this post about it. So, thank you!

As someone who really struggles with this kind of stuff, I am having a hard time figuring out the right rack for me. I have a short list that now includes the OEM rack (not a lot of weight, I know), the Prinsu, the Victory, the Uptop and now the Sherpa. I was leaning toward the Uptop but this one looks interesting. I do have a question -- is it just me or are the install instructions on this one not that good? I don't see how you attach the feet to the truck. I admit I may have missed that.

Sorry. Don't mean to hijack this thread but my potential short list of roof racks is getting longer ... ! :)
