Not trying to invite myself at all.

Tree hundred is fine with me. Eyes might be going for iron sights at that distance, but I have glass I need to mount up and sight in.
Right on. Good times I bet, too.

    A thing or two...
338 Lapua is 338 Lapua Magnum. The magnum designation is typically dropped when referring to the round.

6.5 CM intrigues me too, but I haven't shot it. The thought of building an AR-10 has crossed my mind, but I don't know if I want to go with .308 or 6.5 CM. I already have everything to reload .308 and would have to buy everything to reload 6.5 CM.

So regarding the strengthening of the frame horns for winching. Think I'm going to knock out the OEM studs and put 1/2 bolts in their place. Depending on a response from C4 I'm either going to use their brackets or the BAMF versions. BAMF will require some work to fit around the 1/2 bolts. In looking at the SSO mounts they're really just as thick as the weld on pieces, so it kind of strikes me as pointless to do this. I'll probably hit McMaster for the hardware. I also don't think I'll mess with the inside OEM stud.

Why not just go slightly smaller, like 7/16 or 3/8? 1/2 is a yuge ass bolt and extremely overkill. Also how will you keep it from turning when tightening down?

An idea I just had as I was typing this out was to use some wheel studs. They’ll be bigger than Oem bolts, not overly large and should solve the issue of spinning since you’ll “press” them in.

I could go smaller. Picked 1/2 inch because it's what the weld on brackets were using.

Looking at everything I can get to both ends of the bolt. So keeping it from turning shouldn't be a problem.

Wheel studs is a genius idea, but I'm not sure the horn is thick enough to keep it from turning. I think I have a few somewhere. I can give it a shot.

    Thanks for the ideers!

Haymarket here. Like everyone else has said, commute times can suck depending on where you are going and when. Not a bad commute to Leesburg/Ashburn/Sterling/Herndon area if you work up there with 15/50/606. 66 east sucks anytime after 0600 and west after 1430. Haymarket is growing fast though and if you buy now, you'll have equity in short order. According to most sites, my house is worth about 60k more than I paid for it 28 months ago. New commuter lots and bus lines have also made getting to Rosslyn/DC and Tysons Corner a lot easier and cheaper too. While 66 is under construction, the bus from the Haymarket commuter lot to Rosslyn is less than $7 a day roundtrip. 4 AM runs east and 4 PM runs west.

I like the area... to me, kinda the best of both worlds. Still close enough to go in for work or pleasure but also away from the every day hustle and bustle and a bit more seclusion and privacy. Only 30 minutes to Front Royal and the National Park, lots of wineries, breweries nearby, good schools and everything you need in town or in Gainesville.

For reference, I fly out of IAD often and it takes me about 30 mins to get there going either 15/50/606 or 66/28. My office is in Kingstowne area of Alexandria and my morning commute is 45 mins going 66/286 (on the road by 5) and my afternoon commute is 60-75 minutes (leave the office at 1500).
