One high powered 8 inch sub

Anyone go outside the norm and do I high powered 8 like https://www.massiveaudio.com/products/hippoxl84r or the https://www.dcsoundlab.com/m3-8 or https://www.memphiscaraudio.com/product-page/mjm844-8-4ω-dvc or anyone else like even Sundown that is outside the major brands?

 

I played around with a much cheaper Skar 8 in a ported box getting around 500W. In our little truck cabin it gets super low and borderline painful real quick.

1000W and the right box, those subs you posted would start flexing panels i have no doubt.

But of course it's a trade off, tight and punchy or big and boomy, tough to find a common ground.

I got an 8" underseat Powered Sub.

 

I emailed massive audio and they said 5.4 is mounting depth for the Hippo xl84r which is 900 watts rms. I have a Fosgate BD1000 and it would be perfect for this and a custom ported box. I though about JL dual micro sub 8 but I’m afraid of overloading the W3 8 inch subs

 

i have the skar 8" as well. although i need to re think my box it sounds decent for $69. Heck anything was better than the stock JBL

 

I looked at the Skar also. Leaning toward massive audio xl84r since mounting depth is 5.4 and the watts are 900 rms. I emailed them for the stats and they are super nice and responsive. I have an older Rockford Fosgate BD1000.1 which is about 1100 rms in birth sheet into 2 ohms

Back in 2002 I ran 4 JBL gtx8 subs in my car. 600 watts from a ppi pc2150 and they made your eyes vibrate till you couldnt see.

A single high output 8 can be a beast in a good box

 

Save up and grab a stealth of by JL. Best hands down

 

Looked into those....a lot of coin there and it is not a ported box. I also have a Rockford Fosgate BD1000.1 which is way more than those JL's can handle.

 

Haha I had similar set up but 4 Orion xtr 8’s and 2125 Hcca red amp, and yeah they were tight and loud for sure. Just depends on how you like your sub set up honestly and preferences in music

 

Anyone have any experience with the Memphis mojo 8s 2ohm? Thinking about doing 4 behind the back seats on a Skar rp4500. Would be cool to have them in a ported box where they can breathe and hit lows better, but I’ll probably be forced to do sealed because of the volume available behind the DC back seats.

 

I am looking at the Mojo 8 but dual 4 ohm or Massive Audio's new Hippo XL84R. Both seam pretty comparable on basic specs.... I am doing ported as well. 4 would be awesome

 

It seems like every couple years (or if a good deal comes up) I swap out my sub/s. I hate mainstream brands also so all of them except for an old school JL8w3 v1 have been "outside the norm" brands. I built a center console ported enclosed with the sub firing at the rearview mirror. Off the top of my head I've had Soundqubed, American Bass VFL, DC M3, and JLW3 V1. All in 8 inch. At the moment I'm running their newest CT Sounds Meso. Its the hardest hitting one I've tried so far. it gets down but its power hungry and pretty expensive. Next one I really want to try is the F8L sub. Check out Sound Solutions Audio online. They have some fantastic sales right now for some amazing "off brand" company's you should def check out. I think I just may have to grab that F8L 8 since its a good price right now

 

I looked at CT....the 6.6 inch on the meso 8 I am not positive will fit with a box behind my double cab seat.

 

I have no clue if it'll fit behind the seats with the Ct Meso. Its got a huge triple stacked motor and the surround sticks out pretty far as well. If it'll even fit there's a good chance it'll hit the back of the seat when it flexes

In the right box is key. Back around 2002 maybe 2003, I tried an Alpine type x 10" in a sealed box. The box was 1" thick MDF. I don't remember what amp it was but it was well over 1000w RMS. I don't remember it being anything special.
