Hello to all you fine taco drivers,

Bought my 2020 taco at the end of October and we’re now end of February and I still haven’t received my back ordered mudflaps from Toyota Canada. They said they’re was a lot of Tacoma’s being sold and not enough mud flaps to go along with them. I now have rust pits along my door panels and tailgate. Will be contacting tomorrow to see what they say. I’ll keep everyone posted! New taco fingers crossed lol

I hope you get everything figured out. But it’s very doubtful that mud flaps would prevent rust.
    And yes, need some pics!!!!

Are you sure you're not just seeing rail dust that's embedded in the paint from the shipping process? A good clay bar application will help that tremendously.

Unless there's exposed bare sheet metal, any bubbling type rust wouldn't be from lack of mudflaps, but trapped water somewhere in the body, or a poor welding process (see the inner door jamb rust issues people have had).

Yea it looks like little specs of rust I’ll post a picture tomorrow. The mine road I drive into has copper and nickel con. On it so I’m sure that doesn’t help.

The title of this thread is kinda click-bait. Are we talking rusting of the actual metal of the tailgate and doors, or just surface contamination of the paint?

Click bait. Clay bar will likely fix. It didn’t rust THAT fast.

Exactly! I expect what you are seeing isn't rust. Have you tried to clean it off?

How would mud flaps prevent the tailgate rust?

I think rust flaps might work better. Mud flaps work best for mud.

rail dust, is my guess. need to keep up on wash, and sealant, glaze, wax etc... winter with rain, snow, salt, brine, road treatments, make the rail dust bond faster. Ski

As everybody has said, it’s not rusting, it has rust on it. Big difference. Get it cleaned off and protect your paint.
