The person that looses the guidon may have a life changing event. It’s treated like a sensitive item, and represents the unit. Pretty much a slap in the face for loosing it.

We may have stolen one of the entry rugs for Ranger Bat and an Inf BN guidon one drunk night. Both almost became a post level event with health and welfare inspections being down across multiple units.

    :anonymous:

We also took the 1Cav full sized horse mascot from the chow call on Fob Falcon, it ended up getting shot by one of their own tank company commanders that was attached to our BN. Don’t be a dick to your subordinates and you won’t be made to look like an ass.

Def not how it’s handled in army, no truce because officers don’t know about it.

Yeah, it was styrofoam but carved and painted to look pretty real. My guys told the DFAC it was needed for some pictures at the BDE HQ. They bought it and it ended up on our roof (old Iraqi barracks) for a week. We had a cav tank company attached to our BN that lived down stairs. We were an eng platoon attached to a Cav BN (we were both 3-2ID), the tank company was attached to the BN. So they had no love for Cav giving them up. We had no love for working for a BN that didn’t even know our capabilities or mission set. They would constantly ask us if we could build roads and construction type stuff. Which is a WAY different world then combat engineers. So we both hated the units we were with, it was a match made in heaven. When we left the FOB, they took over the horse. Ended up shooting it with a tank round.

I just had a personal dream come true. Every assignment I’d have one or two troops that were so sharp I’d think “man, if I ever get the opportunity to hire that guy/gal on the outside, I’m hiring them immediately.”

It was confirmed last week, and one of them now starts on the 2nd. It’s weird because we’re both 12 years older. He’s the age now that I was when I wrote his last performance report (he was an easy 5/5). We had some openings we needed filled quickly, he popped up on my LinkedIn, and I pinged him. Turns out his last contract was expiring and he was looking for a change.

It feels like getting the band back together.

There’s another I’m trying to snag, but I can’t convince him to leave a job that pays almost twice as much (in an expensive place). Can’t win ‘em all.

I have to brag on my college buddy a little bit since this is a BS thread, after 4 years in the national guard and a fun deployment his contract was set to end in March, he re-took the ASVAB on his deployment and scored better than when he was in high school. He decided to look for options other than re-upping as an 11B and was able to transfer to Air Force reserves, and to top it off he's going to be Security Forces.
I'm proud of him coming to the dark side.

I helped Fairchild AFB replace the rolling T.O. Library with 13” laptops. It was an incredible transformation to get rid of 3 bread vans full of technical manuals on multiple AMC aircraft (usually KC-135s but they fixed others as needed) that had to be page and line updated weekly. The librarian updated the files on the server, and the mechanics streamed them to the ruggedized laptops.

It took longer to teach them that screwdrivers don’t work on touch pads or track balls.

I miss paper wiring diagrams... Digital was tough to navigate 16 pages on one screen.

Maybe that’s his next move, he’s halfway there on the education requirement.
If he went the O route he would probably go full time and make that extra $$.
