I detailed car at a dealership for ten months; They buy a good portion of their late model used inventory at auction, which includes repossessions...

Have you ever noticed that a lot of non-Jeep dealers seems to have used late model Wranglers on theirs lots? My dad's certified preowned 2018 Yukon was a former corporate fleet vehicle, purchased at auction in Michigan and sold at the dealer where I used to work here in PA. A Tacoma is a hot selling vehicle, and the new Rangers aren't that good, so it's only natural that a Ford dealer would want a piece of that action...

I detailed cars a HUGE dealership for ten months, and this dealer had the following brands...

    • Ford (At least three Ford dealers)
    • Lincoln
    • Chevrolet
    • GMC
    • Cadillac
    • Buick
    • Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram
    • Nissan
    • Subaru
    • Hyundai
    • Toyota (in New Jersey though)
    • Volkswagen

They would buy late model vehicles at auction all over the country, mostly in the Midwest and Northeast; They were generally either lease returns or bank repos...

Yeah live and learn. I didn't know shit about the Tacoma trim levels much when I bought it. Was just looking for a decent low mileage, low maintenance, cheap truck. I got it for 25k so I guess it was an okay deal.

I'll talk to the dealer tomorrow and see what they say I have an ok relationship with them. If not I'll take my happy ass to the Toyota dealer and let them rape me. Was wondering how I was going to introduce myself to get that ball/relationship rolling.

    Interdasting.

First off start with the right equipment. get a price for the toyota dealership to program it (with and without buying the keys from them) Then put out a post and see who has tech stream in your area and is familiar with that stuff... if you're computer savvy you can do it yourself. 70 dollars for the right key with built in fob.

Ok cool thanks. I bookmarked that. First I'll have the dealer confirm I in fact have the module/option. Then do as you suggested. As long as that key will definitely work I'll get it and either have the dealer program it or find someone local as you say.

    It's on the first page.

Actually the repo thing makes so much sense now. The really low miles, the shitty hub caps that were on there. This key situation.

Looks like the keys that came with my truck, but without the Toyota symbol...

Hey while I have an audience .... Anyone know if a rough idle is normal on these 2.7s? Only while in gear it seems. Hopefully the broke bitch before me didn't abuse her.

My 2.7L makes all sorts of weird noises at the most inopportune times, and idles louder when first started; I am OCD about maintenance!

Also, how could somebody abuse a vehicle in 4K miles? That's not even long enough to make it to the first oil change!

Ok good to know. It drives fine other than it being dog shit slow (came from a 16 mustang GT) and the weird shift patterns and unresponsive throttle till you push it through the floor. Good gas mileage tho.

I've been driving my 2.7L for a decade and it's probably faster because it's a regular cab; I've driven my uncle's 3.5L/auto 3rd Gen and that thing was like a muscle car compared to my truck!

Well ... Considering were wealing with some presumably low tier poor, bad decision making individual that had it before me that got it repoed, I'd say it's 50/50 they red lined it off the lot new and did zero break in procedure.

We don't know for sure that it was repossessed, but that seems likely...

How do you know it was a woman who owned it before you?

Woman? Also yeah so about that oil change, I reckon it might be good to do early.

Now I'm worried it legit might be fucked. I have no frame of reference on how this thing is supposed to run. Oh God paranoia is setting in.

Ah yeah that was a joke. I don't mean literally.

Also then again some people swear by running the dog piss out of a new engine to break it in.
