So question about the stock skids, I'm aware that they are pretty useless for rock impact but I don't wheel hard...The only thing I'd be worried about would be driving through some snow and damaging something fragile (busted the radiator in a jeep 04 GC that way)... so a couple of cumulative questions I guess. Is there anything I could damage by driving through drifted snow or getting dug into sand? (i notice the radiator sits higher in tacos than in the jeep) If there is something that needs protecting, would a factoryish (5 lug taco, would have to modify heavily or build something like it to fit) skid suffice?

Please excuse the semi-coherent ramblings. this is the first I've ever thought about any kind of armor

My question is, why would a 5lug 2wd taco be in any amount of snow?

The 2.7s are really quite durable honestly. Worst you could do is puncture the lower sump (oil pan) and lose oil pressure. Or rip off a trans or power steering line. All rather unlikely.

You could probably put one of these on and you’d be just fine:

A fair question, it's my only means of transportation though, so it goes everywhere regardless of weather, haven't had any trouble so far...
Thanks for the info, that puts my mind more at ease...i'll check those skids out. Just dawned on me how ridiculous it would look for an unlifted 5lug to have a skid:rofl:

Speaking of skids....today i literally took skids and frame braces from a 2020 and instaled them on a 2009:

No wonder the 3rd gens are “parts bin trucks” ITS THE SAME FRAME. Glad to know i’ll be able to get a new frame for my 2nd gen from a 3rd gen someday :D

I might have some frame braces and a anti-sway/torsion mitigation bar w/hardware. From a 17' Sport.

Yeah I've already found out there's no decent off-roading in the immediate area, guess I'm just looking for a scenic dirt road or something to enjoy. Not expecting some hidden miracle haha.

I stand corrected... maybe there is a hidden little gem somewhere? Where is Delta? o_O
Hopefully @68dave chimes in with some info as Rob seems to think he has

Is this near your cabin? Or Delta? Delta doesn't seem to be specific enough for google maps to find anything nearby other than flights haha. Could I get a more specific location? Appreciate the info, thanks.

Pics are from my cabin. I've never heard of any trails in Delta except for back in my younger days there was the quarrys in Delta. But I've heard they closed that. I do have a couple TW Cabin meets each year. We grill, shoot, explore the mountain roads/trails, ride dirtbikes & atvs then usually drink a few beers & BS around the firepit. Keep a eye on this thread for info on upcoming cabin meets.
