Nice to know, but doesn't Magnuson offer a similar warranty or extended warranty on their soon to be released supercharger? Also similar HP/torque increase. I'm looking forward to their published numbers once released.

No sense in having the extra power in a Chevy or GMC if you are broke down on the side of the road watching Tacomas passing by laughing at you!

Just wait until there direct injection gets gummed up. Toyota had the sense of dual port injection to keep the engine from that issue.

i could have sworn its carbon build up on the intake valves thats the issue with DI, not the injector getting failing.

Just traded in my GM for a Tacoma. I’ll tell you first hand, the Tacoma may be a little slower but it sure as hell beats being stuck on the side of the road.

No more Government Motors for me, I gave them 2 chances and just won’t do it again. It’s a shame, I really like Chevy trucks when they run. I won’t forget the disappointing treatment I got when my brand new S-10 left me stranded on my 3rd day of ownership, 286 miles and I was stuck at a gas station 2 hours from home in my New Truck.

We bought tacomas. We didn’t enter into a lifelong HP pissing contest. Obviously if we had, we would have bought whatever those things are called. Ford lightning editions. The ones you see where the bed is filled with yard trash and old appliances, and they are always in the fast food drive through. But hey. They go real fuckin fast. As a truck.

I'm sure I'll take some heat here but anyone who is surprised by the power of a Tacoma engine after buying one should have done better research/test drives. Beyond that, this becomes the typical American "more horsepower is always better" approach to auto design.

It follows the similar pattern of the BMW Z3/4 development over time. The original '96 came with two engine options - a 1.8l (for European stripped down offering) and a 1.9l in-line 4 cyl rated at 138hp. It has a near perfect front to rear weight ratio (51/49%) and was designed as a classic roadster at its best in carving corners on twisty, mountain roads. Enter the "we need more horsepower crowd and it morphed into 6 cyl and M power versions that never met the cornering of the original but could compete in the straight-aways...never what it was originally designed to do.

Toyota seems to have been able to avoid the constant search for more Hp seeking to find the perfect balance of power, haul, towing and fuel-efficiency appropriate to a mid-sized truck. If you want more, get a Tundra seems to be their approach.

Personally, I find my Gen 3 perfect for my needs - just what I expected and found in test drives of Gen 3s before I purchased it. Of course, this is all just my own personal opinion and YMMV.
