I don’t see anything special about it, certainly wouldn’t spend over $1K on an AR and still have a polymer lower either.

I wouldn't spend the price for the complete rifle, but I'm interested in trying one of their lowers maybe

I've been totally against polymer lowers for awhile but maybe this one is right...I figure pairing the poly lower with a lightweight Faxon pencil barrel and a carbon fiber handguard could make a really lightweight camping rifle that I can strap to my pack

Look for a class 3 dealer and look up nfa firearms.
If in the Las Vegas area go to battlefield las Vegas to shoot selective fire guns.

Battlefield Las Vegas was where I shot a Full auto MP5 for the first time, I really enjoyed it.

I have shot lots of full auto guns and own a few.
Cheapest gun you will find is probably a mac and they will start over 7-8k plus paperwork.

Im happy with the SBR/Suppressor side of the game I’m in now, although I do want to do at least one SBS (I’m not really a shotgun guy) and an AOW.
One day when I’m rich I’d like to dabble in MG’s.

    Still on this subject huh.

I’m surprised no one mentioned to personally own a full auto it it has to be a pre-1986 “machine gun.” $200 tax stamp, gun cost, 6-13 month background, tedious bs, and every known agency knowing your name. Just to waste ammo.

The reason why you can rent them on the range like in Vegas is because the owners have a SOT license and are authorized dealers. Idk all the legal bullshit that goes into, because frankly I don’t care to remember it, but they have authorization to let people do so, as long as the firearm doesn’t leave the facility with a non authorized person as it belongs to the authorized SOT. Essentially your borrowing your buddy’s gun at the range with you, and paying him money.

A pre-1986 mp5 would cost you about $15,000 or about in example. Or you can join the military and get to play with them all the time and get paid to do so. You get to clean them, then clean them, then put on lsa or clp, then clean them, then shoot them, and carry them, and sleep with them....and clean them...
Then you go on deployment with them, and you get to clean them, carry them everywhere and sleep with them, poop with them and maybe kill with them. So fun. :rain:

    See my post above.
Battlefield Las Vegas has mostly post 86 dealer samples, that's the work around for the 86 ban.
Any legal owner of a gun can charge to let people shoot it.
No special license to rules are involved.

I’m familiar with Battlefield Vegas, and miniguns from helo’s and their tank. YOU don’t need the legal BS to rent, they do. They are still a SOT dealer. That’s all I was saying in my post.

YOU can’t buy at post 86 gun and take it home with you without being at least a class 1 FFL/class 3 SOT

That’s the other part of my post. That’s not to make it seem easy.

If you decide to be come a class 3 SOT after getting a FFL you can get a demo letter from your local police, which allows you to get a dealer sample aka you can own a modern “machine gun” as long as you maintain your class 3. Which is like $500 a year plus whatever other fees.

Building my own, sorta. I've been following their 2020 project closely, and followed the 2017 iteration when they did it. Definitely picking up the poly lower, hard to beat a lower that's more durable, lighter, and more ergonomic than standard aluminum ones. As a whole rifle I believe they're on to something, I just find that their end result is slightly unsuited to my shooting, so I'm going a slightly different path with the trigger/optic/muzzle device.

As far as the lower being polymer, don't forget that the reason poly lowers fail on the AR is usually because of the receiver extension stripping out or breaking off. This lower neatly skirts those issues because it's 1) one piece, so there's no tube to strip out and 2) redesigned load paths to make use of polymer material properties.

    Morning.

I'll be honest that I'm a n00b when it comes to AR's. I don't own any (yet) but have shot a few that friends own.

    I do have a Springfield 9mm pistol and a .22 S&W 15-22 Rifle though

Now I am from Maryland (ugh - gun laws here suck) and you need to have a heavy barrel for your AR... I've been looking for a completed upper and lower but not sure what to go with. I've been looking on PSA's website along with many others. This will be mainly for range use @ 25 yards (for now).

As always any help is appreciated.

The HBAR exemption seems to be built around Highpower style shooting, so rifles or uppers/lowers dedicated to that style of shooting would be a good starting place. Rock River Arms and White Oak Armament are two I know that sell high quality uppers for those purposes.
