I found one just like that the last time I knocked all the salt off my truck. Didn't even notice it until the taco was clean. Buffed the paint out, but the dent lives on.

I can finally stop lurking and join this thread! I have managed to accomplish a project on my truck!

Put on a new roof rack and RTT as well as mounted some used OEM running boards!

the dude has his own welding shop.. I think he just enjoys building and welding shit. Really nice guys.

granted, it’s HREW steel and not DOM.. but for my purposes, hot rolled is overkill

Fighting the fight (RUST) cleaned up as best I could the rear axle and hit it with some Krylon rust fighter paint . Took my tail gate apart and bed lined the Mobtown tailgate protector and the center piece. Dremel with wire brush and cleaned the bottom of gate where the metal is crimped because rust (3rd time I did this ) brushed rusty metal primer on it then sprayed it with the Krylon rust fighter . Not done yet ,waiting on stuff to dry 5523CF8E-2C44-4A09-820F-08EC2A7EF2A1.jpg1E6D9997-45DD-4BFB-8381-EE30C55A8D18.jpgC7CA116F-D646-4410-837C-654C72535BBD.jpg5ABBE7CE-010B-4EDF-8894-AAF48C75DCE2.jpgC78760F6-920B-4115-9CC6-E362FC46C91F.jpg

Thats funny cause i just washed my truck yesterday, and then saw it today. Must be a door ding. Must of either been too dirty for a bit to realize it. Or it just happened last week at some time...Thing that sucks - Ill never know!

HREW vs. DOM is often debated but honestly HREW is a good fit for 99% of dudes with sliders. It's just that usually everyone thinks they belong to that 1% when they are actually the 99%. This goes for myself too lol because I went with DOM but HREW would have been more than fine. 4xinnovations made a video comparing them both. Not scientific at all but just to show what they can take and what you can expect. It's kind of long but I started the video at the HREW testing portion and it can take a pretty good beating, doubt many of our tacomas will ever see that much. They even found that using DOM meant less deflection of the sliders themselves but it started bending the frame instead. They also tested square tubing.

And certainly design and the quality of the welds will play a big part as well. DOM that is just bugger welded together vs HREW that has some quality welds done.
