Damn your stupid! His trailer (tongue weight) will eat up a portion/percentage of his already minimal payload capacity. You factor in people and gear and whatever else and he's gonna be over payload.

Is that always going to be the case, though when they want to go on a family camping trip for the weekend or something. Doubtful.

Either way 4500 before gear and people. Unless his kids weigh 500 pounds each I don't see this being a big deal. also tow and payload ratings are very conservative.

Again, lets break this down. Before we even get to the trailer itself he has a problem. (This is assuming he's not using a separate car for a camping trip or something which will inevitably happen)

    Guy: 200 lbs
    Gal: 150 lbs
Two kids: 80 lbs a piece = 160 total lbs of kids
Trailer tongue weight: 10-15 percent of the trailers weight, say 550 pounds?
His payload is 1350 lbs if I'm not mistaken for an '07. Then you have to ask: does he have a payload reduction sticker in his door jam? Probably. So his realistic payload drops to around 1000 lbs.
Total that up and you're at 1060 without ANYTHING ELSE.

Moral of the story...Can he? Yes. Should he? No.

I did. I quoted it. Your logic still does not resonate.
Even if the dude was 2 fiddy and his tongue weight was 6 fiddy he'd still be below GVWR for the rig. Hell he could have over 100 beers in his back seat and be below GVWR.

Man you're cherry picking the heck out of this. Just him(@250), tongue weight(@650) NOTHING ELSE, he even took a piss before he left... sure he's under at 900 lbs. You and everyone else who tows a camper and goes on trips knows this is hardly ever the case. Kids are going to want to ride with dad, gear accumulates, separate car needs to go in for a multi-day repair mid-trip, on and on and on.

Throw the kids and the gear in the trailer. Problem solved.

    Next.

Not too heavy if on the prairies. However, if there are any substantial hills involved, nope. Too heavy. I had a TT of similar weight I towed to a camp ground a couple hours away and back on flat country and it was no problem. Now I have a 20 ft 3900 dry weight TT and I towed it to PEI from London Ontario, 20 hr drive up and down big hills in Quebec and New Brunswick... nope... never again. With a gross weight of about 4600 lbs my max travel distance is 6 hrs... with no hills.

No but I would not hesitate to do it. At the current time I have no plans to do either.
