whoa don't do that! if you're about to need cash for a condo, keep that shit safe AF. I have my 10% down payment for my townhouse in a high interest savings account right now that gets 2.25%. Could I put in in the markets yes, would that be wise? Nooope.

If you have "extra" money, then yeah, wait for a bit more of a drop first.

Just looking at the charts.. we were overdue tbh

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I maxed out my roth for 2019 and 2020, then put like 1/4th of my remaining savings in some S&P index funds. That's all my exposure right now. Was planning on making a down payment end of this yearish, but was considering throwing in some more money in the market because I feel like I am missing out on potential gains. New to all this stuff have not had much experience with downturns

FWIW I bought and sold that stock 2 times since 2013. I bought a new fence and a gazebo for my deck the second time. Doubled my money each time. It's a risky speculative stock, I would not bet the farm on it.

Im looking at doing some bargain shopping today, just dont know what to buy. My portfolio is holding it's own, but I also am mostly in "boring" high dividend stocks that dont move much. This market is waaaaay to expensive and even if it does have a massive sell off it's still been a great run.

The timing does kind of suck as I was looking at selling some stock to fund my new business, but it is what it is.

I was sitting on cash in 2008 after the market drop and was buying right after the bottom, hopeing to repeat that again BUT I dont think this next pull back will be as bad as that. That was crazy with 700+ point drops per day and oil at damn near $200 a barrel.

Lol!! I may just buy some more of my REITs that I have, or search for some blue chips to buy into.

I'm a long term dividend investor who tends to put my money in business that if they collapse it will be the collapse of society as we know it anyway. LOL

I am unfortunately "unemployed" but working on starting a biz, so no contributions for me. My wife works for an airline so I may be getting a little nervous if this virus thing lasts for a while.

There are already infected people being sent to FEMA camps in Anniston, AL. I'm *this* close to wearing my 3M VOC respirator to work (since I'm like 200 yards from a hospital).

Not sure how much good it'll do considering all those people in China are head to toe in PPE and they're all still getting infected, but I don't think those crappy little cloth masks do anything anyways

I'm not worried, I have a higher likelihood of getting killed in a car crash, house fire, random heart attack, doing something stupid in my garage or even the regular flu rather than this virus.

I guess it's figureing out how to profit off the hysteria.

I was in your shoes in 08. I didn't touch a thing. It paid off exceptionally well.

I wanna hear more about this 2.25 high yield savings account. I can't do better than 1.8%.

It's not a conspiracy, it's all over a bunch of news outlets. But apparently they have since cancelled that transfer.

    https://www.google.com/search?q=ann...rome..69i57.4719j0j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

But yes, we 100% have coronavirus patients in the US. We have known this since earlier this month, when the first known patient was quarantined in Seattle.

South Korea's number have gone up exponentially. Iran has infections. Now Italy is imposing fines for anyone caught leaving cities. The spread is happening and it's happening very quickly. Now that the virus has fully taken hold in places outside of China, we are starting to see *real* numbers (not dubious ones from CCP officials) and how fast it's spreading. So far the graphs I'm seeing are showing exponential growth, but the lethality of it is still questionable.

Either way, the virus will 100% have implications and felt effects for the global economy. Apple already admitted that sales have plummeted, stores have been closed. Several other consumer-facing companies have shuttered their stores as a result of the virus. Manufacturing facilities have been closed. Entire cities shut down. My main concern is now that since the virus can live on surfaces for 9 days, if any products we are receiving from China are infected. :notsure:

I went on Investopedia and looked at their list. At the time, Customers Bank had an "Ascent" High Yield "money market" account (just a savings acct). They were offering 2.25% until July 1 2020, guaranteed. About a week later after opening, I got this email:

"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

We want to express our appreciation for choosing Customers Bank and the Ascent Money Market Savings Account.

Thanks to you and people like you, we have generated more than $1 billion in deposits with this product. That’s money we’re putting to work to fund loans for business expansions all across America. You’re fueling economic growth, jobs, and the American Dream. We feel like you’re a part of the team now and we want to tell you about a recent update that supports our plans for growth and diversification.

At the current time, we are no longer accepting applications for NEW Ascent Money Market Savings Accounts. Be assured that there is no impact on your current Ascent Money Market Savings account. You will continue to earn 2.25% APY* through June 30, 2020 as long as you maintain a minimum balance of $25,000 or more. You can add additional funds to your account enjoying that same great rate. And you can, as needed, make withdrawals and transfers up to the legal limit of six withdrawals per statement cycle.

And, as we near the end of the rate guarantee we will be completely transparent about your account. We will share with you our assessment of the market and any decisions we make to adjust rates. Know that we will always seek to be one of the most competitive banks in America offering the kind of personalized customer service we’ve built our reputation on and products that support your long-term financial goals.

Thank you for banking with Customers Bank.

    Sincerely,

    Richard A. Ehst
    President & Chief Executive Officer"

Seems to me like the window was only open for a very short period of time, because a bunch of people started piling in. My main reason for bank shopping again was because of a Wealthfront email I got regarding their decrease in their APY (again) for Fed spot interest rates. I emailed back saying "what? The Fed didn't decrease their target rate" and then they proceeded to tell me they will reduce their APY at any time if the spot rates change, which I was annoyed by because I have a strong suspicion that they will not increase it if the opposite happens. I guess I just got lucky as far as getting into the CB account.

Oh I believe you. I was just asking because I love some good alex jones entertainment hahaha. Yeah I was listening to WSJ podcast this morning and WHO is saying there are confirmed cases in people who have not traveled to China or supposedly had any exposure to people who have the virus. They are saying the virus may be spreading in ways we do not know about. Scary stuff man. I am younger but I still cannot remember any time where the response has been remotely as drastic as the quarantines going on right now. Makes me worry we are dealing with something a lot more serious than a strain of flu.

Damn! I had that rate with Ally 18 months ago, they have been slowly whittling the rate down over the last year. I'm slightly annoyed.

from random stuff I've seen (data gathered *so far*), it's not as contagious as measles (up to 20 people infected from 1), but it's about as contagious as SARS (2-5 people from 1), and it has surpassed infections/deaths when compared to SARS, which was probably the most recent contagion scare we have had (thanks again to China for that..).

Some people are heavily skeptical that this might be straight up lab-created biological warfare, not some weird bat-eating fetish gone wrong. We will never know. Either way, the fact that whole towns are getting shut down, and the rapid spread, kinda makes me think it might be a good time to reallocate to a more "SHTF" portfolio. I still have some market exposure, but it's minimized.
