Honestly, I talk a lot about that jokingly but anyone with just a few years in or starting out, I always tell them to commission.

Wouldn’t want to deal with the politics of it anytime after 10 years or so in, after you’re set in your ways. Suppose going from enlisted to officer in a technical field might not be the worst though.

We would tag other squadrons shit with our unit stickers. Pretty much military wide hazing, every unit does it regardless of branch.

The best thing we ever did was help ourselves to a double handful of a "sister wing" when stuck in their Base Ops one night. Prior to an exercise deployment. We passed those stickers out among our own Wing, and for YEARS those McConnell AFB stickers would show up in urinals around the world. 92nd ARW FTMFW!

I think the most infamous unit sticker in the USAF is the Maine ANG - the MAINEiacs. I have been in central Africa...and found one of their stickers slapped high on the wall in a makeshift air terminal.

    Those fuckers get around!

I actually have some left over. I was at our air show here in town a couple years ago and one of our old sister squadrons had a plane there. Ours was decom'ed way back in the 90's, but these guys were obviously still around. I came within a gnats ass from going home and grabbing a sticker and tagging their plane just for the shits and giggles of it.

That makes perfect sense to me. Hated those hats and spurs.

The issues with that Cav BN I talked about earlier (not 1st Cav, 1-14 Cav with our BDE- 3-2 SBCT) all started with us briefing them our capabilities, which for Iraq was primarily route clearance, route sanitation, and EOD escort type missions. Their response was to decline our IED interrogation equipment (Buffalo, MRAPs, Huskey) because they were afraid of loosing us as an asset to Corps CMD in the area. They still had us do counter IED when EFPs were a main concern. We coded out 5 Strykers in the 7-8 months we were with them. BDE didn’t allow HMMWVs of the FOBs because they were death traps. But when my stryker was destroyed, they got special permission for me and my guys because of our “critical mission.” Then they wanted sanitation done so there was less places to hid IEDs. We told them the equipment we needed (ACE or Dozer, bobcat, Buffalo to ensure the trash piles didn’t have an IED) instead they gave us rakes and shovels. Still no buffalo. We gave our concerns to our company command (6 miles away in BIAP, who had 3 buffalos). Nah, you guys are good. When 1-14 gave us our “combat spurs” certificates, we had a bon fire.

Not all Cav is like that but they all get the same love because of one jackass unit.

my old unit was decom'ed years ago. We were the 16th CRS (Component Repair Squadron) or more commmonly know as Can't Repair Sh*t. They are now the 16th CMS (Component Maintenance Squadron) or Can't Maintian Sh*t now. Can't remember the last time I saw one of our stickers around...and we traveled a LOT. If the Gunships deployed, so did we. Still have my squadron challenge coin, and I STILL carry the shop coin. It is stupid rare to see one.

Just found proof that the whole sticker thing isn't relegated to just the US military.

At the (sadly now gone) pub in the middle of the Shannon Ireland airport...

Don’t know what I love most about this, that he put them on blast in the “all talk” or that other dude followed it with a Nelson HaHa gif.

One of those text message chat groups. The ones that shines new Lt’s think are so cool.

We never discussed in text messages, too easy to screen print and be taken out of context.
