Parking Lights and High Beam (forward) Not Working

Hello everyone!

I just noticed today that my parking lights are not working along with my high beams “on” (clicking forward on the stalk switch). High beams work fine when flashing (pull back). And all lights seem to be functioning during signal, hazard, brake, startup procedures. DLR working fine.

I think I’ve looked around here pretty well and haven’t found anything. Head lights, Fog lights, and light bar all work fine.

Any ideas suggestions? Maybe a bad light stalk? No bad fuses from what I can tell, thought not sure how that would effect only these two things. Seems to be those switch positions.

is your "auto high beam" button on?

 

trace the add-ons back to see if they are the source.

 

This would be my first guess for sure

 

How many random wires are on the truck. You know, red or black, hanging in the road, attached to other wires with those plastic smash clips, out the window and up to the off road NAPA lights....Start looking there if you have them. Oh, and don't forget the 2 trailer plugs either.

Oh well, my bad, I had the same experience the other day until I figured it out but I have a 2018.

Correct, I do not have auto high beams.

I’m certain these things were working before, I definitely checked them when I purchased the truck. And since all of the lights still function I’m assuming that the issue is at the wheel somewhere.

So far for sure I know that the headlights, and high beams are aftermarket bulbs. The lightbar has a dedicated switch that’s easily traced. The amber grill lights are hooked into an active fuse, which appears to be correctly done and functional.

I just find it strange that both of these “switches” on the stalk aren’t working, but for sure the lights are. Hoping someone else had a similar issue. I’m not certain when this started.

Only thing I’ve done is add a Start-X remote start. Could that have shorted something in the switch?

I have no idea what I’m doing. First taco/first used vehicle experience as an adult.

How did you figure out this is happening?

 

You checked both fuse boxes yeah? Under the hood and under the dash? @caribe makaira ?

 

It was kind of cloudy out today so I switched on the “parking lights” which I always (wrongly) assumed were the DRL. So first I freaked out thinking my DRL weren’t working, moved back the fuse that the previous owner had plugged into a useless slot, and then clicked the box on entune to turn them on. But then tested everything and realized it was a different issue.

 

Yep I checked every single fuse.

 

So you were driving when you figured this out or were you parked with you e brake on?

 

I was driving. Stopped at a light behind a nice shiny black truck and realized the lights weren’t on. But switched through the others and they worked fine.

 

I hate to persists, but both sides of the fuses?

 

Let's take one feature at a time. The Parking/Tails are a separate fuse. Get a new fuse. Remove the one in the cab fuse box with new one. Turn light stalk to parking/tails lights. Walk around the vehicle for a visual check.

Yeah I checked the fuses pretty extensively and I’m fairly confident with fuses and basic wiring. I just haven’t busted open the steering column yet to check those wires. Was really hoping someone else had a similar past issue and could poof! Fixit.

This has always been my go-to knowledge source so I think I read about all the similar issues and tried those fixes.

 

Let me double check that real quick! Definitely checked that fuse but didn’t switch it out with a new one. Read about that tail fuse causing problems.
