Wood filler and some spray can polyurethane? Safe for baby feet?

Yes I can now. Those are cool! Yeah if it were me, I'd slather a thin filler on it, pack it in good and sand em one more time. Then several coats of poly.

 

But if there's gaps, you might see it next to all those colors. Hard to tell. Maybe some aqua coat wood grain filler? Its clear....

 

Looks like a good candidate for epoxy. Haven’t worked with it much myself but a few here have. I would think it would excel here.

The wife and I went out for my birthday last month and I swear our waiter looked like a young Forrest Whitaker, sans eye. Like Platoon-era young. And the bar tender looked like Nancy from Stranger Things.

 

I know about those high chairs very well! My wife even bought a couple extra, to keep at the grandparents' houses for visits.

If the gaps are that small, why do you want to fill them? I'm just going off of the photo, but it doesn't look unseemly to me. If you finish with a thicker clear coat, like a poly or a varnish, it should fill in gaps that small without any issue. 2-3 coats and there may not be any level difference between the gaps and the field.

The other, more artistic option...
Choose a dye color that you think would look good as an "outline" color. Mix it up with some clear pore filler.
Hit the board with enough coats of shellac to fill the pores (if it's all plywood the pores aren't very deep, so it won't take much).
Give it a good sanding without pulling the shellac out of the pores.
Use the colored pore filler on the board, sand it down when dry.
Clear coat.
It's time consuming, and you'll have to be a little anal with it to make sure you're not getting colored filler in the pores, just in the gaps. The result would be that all your objects pop with a red/blue/green/yellow/etc. outline.

I mean the gaps are enough to get a fingernail in but not much more than that. Mostly just concerned about wet food getting between them!

Thinking epoxy too. Not sure how to do it since there is no edge though that can contain the epoxy

The gaps are tiny tiny but just didn't want wet food seepage. We are doing baby-led weaning so she eats what we eat and that is messy! A thicker clearcoat might do it

 

Epoxy would be great for that. It wouldn't take much. You have the piece spaced off of the working surface and let it run off the sides. It's just thick enough that it won't all run off
the top as long as it's perfectly level.

 

I was actually checking out youtube videos and seems pretty alright! I will give it a go.

However what would be the best course of action do you think? The two sides are not glued together yet and are a little bowed so when put together there is a gap between them.

Do I glue them together so there is no gap and then do one side at a time?
or epoxy one side at a time and then glue them together? Will epoxy break if I bend them together to glue?
