Rock Slider Kickout

I just got my first Tacoma and am looking at upgrades now. Hoping to sell the Predator steps that came with my truck to fund some rock sliders and have started researching. A basic question I have is about the kickout that some have. What is this for? Wouldn't it just increase the truck's footprint and chance of hitting something? Or is there a particular purpose for it (like getting in the truck, etc)?

The kickouts help to avoid body damage in the event you are scraping against something like a rock or tree by increasing the distance from said object to your body panels.

Also more area to use sliders as a step.

 

Shouldn't the whole slider be a kickout? Why just that back part? o.o

 

Probably due to the way the rear tracks. During a turn it has a smaller radius than the front so just because your front cleared and obstacle doesn't mean the rear will. That is where the kickouts will help.

 

To push the ass end of your vehicle further away from an obstacle. Helps to also have a tire sit slightly outside the fender as well.

It’s hard to explain with my words this early in the morning but imagine you’re in a tight turn on the trail and your slider has contacted a tree trunk...thank god for the slider, no body damage. As you travel forward, the trunk slides along the length of the slider, and the kickout bumps you off the trunk.


I mean. I don’t know. Maybe the whole slider should be a kickout. Maybe a pop tart should just be the filling. Maybe a girlfriend should just be the boobs. I don’t know why things are the way they are.

 

The sliders main purpose it to protect your doors and rockers the kickout helps protect your bed

 

Do some people opt for sliders without kickouts?
