When exactly does someone become an A-Hole?

Most babies are not assholes. In the 1970s most people were not assholes. With the advent of anonymity on chat and online great swaths of assholes began. Now our civil community is peppered with assholes which both promote and legitimize assholes. Don’t succumb, it will shift back.

 

Sorry to disagree, but my grandparents were good people who always told me unvarnished “truths” about what life was like when they were growing up poor in NYC. Both born in the nineteenth century, and based on their stories I surmised at an early age that there have always been plenty of bad characters, and also many good...exactly like the present.

Most of the other adults told me how great it used to be when they were young, which I have come to learn is just b.s...lol

 

being an asshole has now become a human right along with free college,free adult healthcare till 26 years old etc. etc.

 

Envy. Greed. Taught victimhood. Nihilism. No consequences for bad behavior.

 

I hate it when I come across threads like this and get excited thinking it must be Friday. Then I check my calendar and see it's only Tuesday. Well shit....back to work...

 

So much this. I'm not really that old, but back in my day, if someone was too much of an asshole they got an ass whipping and put their asshole in check. I have several anecdotes, some involve me, some don't. We don't do that anymore or someone brings out a gun or some other pussy shit.

It seemed to work just fine. No bs anonymity behind keyboards either. You just knew if you had something mean to say to or about someone, there may be a consequence for those actions.

 

Sometimes I might have been the asshole though...

Maybe.

Since we are living in unprecedented affluence, low infant mortality, no world or civil wars weeding out the weaklings...

But drop any combination of famine, plague or war on us and I am pretty certain most would toughen up real nice.

And the way OUR world works has produced some pussies. Liberia on the other hand doesn’t have this problem. Their sense of humor probably isn’t as good though.

 

My theory is whether you are from Liberia, Lithuania of Lubbock you basic functioning is the same.

I think me, my ancestors from Northern Europe or my more distant ancestors from Central Africa all were motivated by the desire to reproduce successfully.

The rest is just window dressing...lol

It's seems that a large majority here feel like all assholes are a bad thing. I personally think that some assholes help to keep society in check... Like bees, for instance. No one likes bees. Bees can be assholes. But bees also help to pollinate the earth which assists in plant growth that allows for the production of the oxygen in which we breathe. Now, no one wants to be surrounded by stupid people the same way that they don't want to be surround by bees... but we need some assholes in the world telling stupid people that they're stupid, for the sake of humanity.

Don't park in never-never land. That's an invitation to park close next to you or worse key the truck. I park amongst the vehicles in the parking lot meaning my truck does not get "special" notice. I do the same with the Vette. Never exposing the entire vehicle parked where only the OCD park.

If it's a windy day be sure to park INTO THE WIND...So the people who park next to you opening doors and losing the handle on their door due to a wind gust. Flying into your truck.

 

In 2013 I bought my wife a new Sienna. A few weeks later she ran into a store next to a laundry mat while I sat out in the van. A lady pulled in next to me and when she got out of her car she let the door fly into the side of my Sienna. Before I could get out of the van she threw her back door open and pulled a laundry basket out and thumped the door against my van several times. I blew a gasket and asked her what the hell her problem was and then proceeded to be an A--hole myself with her. She got back in her car crying and drove off. In the meantime my wife is in the store looking out the window at what was going on.
The lady I vented on was my wife's boss. I had never met her. Oops.
