Ok, here's my story. I bought my 08 DC prerunner new in April 08. I installed toytec's coilover and TC UCA's in the front, They're great. In the rear I have a 2" block. I then had to adjust the front to raise it so therefore my front end was higher. So I ordered toytec's aal. After that it was level. I was happy but now things seem to have settled a bit. Whenever I come to a stop I get this slamming "THUMP" known as axle wrap. My question is this: How do I fix it. I've read that new rear leafs are the answer. I've read about Dakar, Alcans, and Downey's. For those of you that have done this and resolved the issue, which did you use. Did it eliminate your axle wrap issue?? Should I just remove my rear setup and install these?? Any info. is helpful. Thanks, Brandon.

I'm no guru, but that gap in your leaf pack where the AAL is doesn't look right to me.

You talking about between the 3 leaf and the overload?? Cause that's pretty normal.

Spend the coin on a good lift set up that doesn't need a block...

The torque of the driveline causes the springs to twist as you load it up- More pedal/faster pedal = More twisting. When you unload the drive line (decel to a stop) that twist has to come undone- It the springs are overly stiff or have a block in them...This reset to "normal shape" can be pretty abrupt...causing a slamming or thumping noise.

Really bad cases can cause damage...I can't find the photos now-but it's a Jeep with the axle hanging off cause the leaf pack shredded itself.

No, look closer. There's the bottom overload spring - it floats free.

On the other side of the axle, away from the camera there's a gap between the AAL spring and the first regular spring of the pack. The AAL isn't integrated neatly into the pack - it's got a gap. That's what I'm talking about.

How much lift did you get with the AAL's and the block? remove the block and it should be ok.

I have around 3" of lift total in the rear. I will take the block out but ill need more lift (Alcans in my future I guess). Anyone have any input on the link in post #2?? Any recommended springs to go back with??

have you dropped the carrier bearing any?
no, i thought that was for 4x4's only??

well...for one make sure everything is tighetned down correctly. the center pin on the leafs since you have an aal and make sure the Ubolts are torqued down good...since your running blocks it's a good idea to torque them more than factory spec. unless your ubolts suck.

I did this. I have some more tweaking to do since I did install a full length helper spring in my leaf pack, but the U-bolts did fix the axle wrap completely. The addition of the extra U-bolt keeps the leafs from deflecting when you accelerate.

EDIT: Probably your best bet would be to get a full length helper spring and ditch the spacer entirely. If you install it in your leaf pack instead of on top of it, or U-bolted under it, you should pick up the lift you lose with the block. That is, if your wanting to do this on the cheap.
