Best 7444NA Halogen Bulb?

Ive searched, and searched. I'm looking into replacing my 7444na turn signal/drl bulbs, and looking for something that may provide more brightness... I dont want to switch to LED because of the hyperflashing issue. The sylvania bulbs on Amazon seem like a direct replacement but im not sure if they would be brighter than stock or not. I was curious if there are any halogen bulbs in that size that are brighter than the standard bulbs. If not, then oh well but I am just curious and actively wasting time at work so please help!

These are what I have in my front and rear signals, they can be used in place of the 7443. They are very bright (higher wattage is the reason), a little deeper amber than a standard NA bulb and when off it has a pretty cool look. I also have these in my wifes Ford Fusion, which the bulbs I transferred from a previous vehicle. Those bulbs have almost 12 years on them and have never been replaced!

Ooo those look like what I'm looking for. They work well for the drls and turn signals? I'd love a slightly darker amber light because my fogs are slightly darker amber!

 

Ya, they work great for both! I don't recall on the 3rd gens how it's wired. But on the 2nd gens it is wired so the running light is on the "bright" filament and blinks using the "bright" filament. When the low beams are turned on the "dim" filament is used and uses the "bright" filament when using the blinker.

They are very bright, I think brighter than many LEDs with the exception of VLeds V6 Triton, those are just straight up insane...but so is the price tag. I Also want them to be bright so other traffic notices the vehicle and it's intentions even more so. Which is also why I prefer amber signals over red, I feel like amber sticks out more.

 

I'm really anxious to pull the trigger and buy these. I just want to make sure that they will fit in the socket for the 7442 bulb that I have currently. I'm trying to google it and not finding much about using a 3157 in a 7442 plug.

 

I found this and its not looking like it will fit... I guess I should look at the difference between 7444na (which i guess is what my truck has oem) and 7443 (on the older tacomas?)

so it looks like the 2nd gens had 3157/4157 bulbs for the DRL/turn signals. 3rd gen is 7444 which is slightly smaller and runs on less power. Still not sure if they are interchangable but they appear to have different style bases and I dont want to fit another bulb in there unless i know for sure that its ok to do so. Still looking for more info

There are not many options. The 7442NA is an Amber 28W/8W dual filament bulb.

The owner's manual says my truck uses 7442NA bulbs. What's actually in the truck are Toshiba 7442NALL. The LL is supposed to mean long life.

I finally found some on Ebay, listed like this:

They were $8 each, including shipping, which is less than the $12 each ones that I found elsewhere. And they are indeed dark amber 28w/8w bulbs, unlike the lighter colored 7444NA 21w/5w bulbs that my local O'reilly's called "the same thing".

Would they work? Sure. But they are NOT the same thing.

Forget about LED bulbs. None that I have seen are rated to run "bright" continuously, as in DRL use.

 

I bought these LEDs and they don't hyperflash and much brighter than the stock ones they have been on for 12k miles no issues. If they do hyperflash you just need to switch the bulb around in the connector. I put them in and my driver side hyperflashed but not the passenger sidem i just swapped the driver side 180 in the connector and it stopped hyperflashing. They will hyperflash if the trucks engine is not running but once the engine is running they won't hyperflash must need to see that extra voltage from the alternator

The 3rd gen SR and SR5 trim levels use the turn signal as a DRL. Yes, it makes a difference. What may work OK on a TRD Off Road will not work OK on a SR5.

I know OP said he doesn't want to use LEDs i have had very good experience with using diode Dynamics and vleds LED turn signal bulbs for being much brighter than halogen even in the daytime with the sun out with my accord and gmc denali I used to own. I found they make a PNP inline resistor so you don't need to tap into the wiring at all. Just another idea to throw out there. Personally If it were me I would be using a switchback from DD if my drl was the turn signal bulb

This is because they get too hot when used as a DRL, where the bulb stays "bright" most of the time.
A halogen 7442NALL is plenty bright, does not have hyperflash problems, and at $8 each are cheap compared to quality LED bulbs.

One thing that people loose sight of when "fixing" their LED caused hyperflash problems by adding load resistors is that normally, with halogen bulbs, hyperflashing serves a very good purpose:

It lets you know that you have a blown bulb !

 

I appreciate all the responses! I think im going to just pop out the bulbs and see exactly what they are. I'm assuming they are the 7444 28/8. However if they are 21/5 for some reason I will definitely upgrade. Just looking for the brightest amber halogen 7444 bulb available.

I already have LED lows and fogs. Ill keep this post updated with any new info i find, or which bulbs i ultimately decide to run with!

 

Canbus makes a switch back bulb, that i use and they are great .

My bad guys! I Thought the 3157 would fit in the 7443 but its the opposite. But if you can find those silverstar bulbs in 7443.
