I can get a set of tires shipped from https://tirerack.com for $200 cheaper than I can get them locally. Local shops charge a fortune to mount and balance tires if you don't buy them from them. It's their way of keeping people from shopping online. I was looking into doing it myself. Thinking of getting one or two of these; https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J15LV...olid=2Q684WMGM7M6E&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it and one of these; https://www.amazon.com/Truck-Profes...motive&sprefix=ballance,automotive,661&sr=1-4 and a some of these; https://www.amazon.com/VTR-Adhesive...29TB04QVYR6&psc=1&refRID=RGM3358M329TB04QVYR6
Have any of you done this, and how hard is it? Or should I just pony up the extra $200 and save myself the hassle?

It's about the same price where I live. Mount and balance of 4 tires comes out to $56 at a locally owned shop. I know how to mount and balance tires myself as per a qualified service tech's training but why would I do it myself and take extra time out of my day? A shop's equipment is fast but I don't have access to a shop so as far as I'm concerned 10 bucks a wheel is a pretty good deal.

When say 200 cheaper is that just for tires. Ie the local dealer wants 50 more per tire or is that out door mounted etc. is it apples to apples. Ie. At discount your out the door price includes lifetime balance, road hazard etc. something happens run into discount get it handled. Buy then online and now deal with online requirements of returns, tire issues etc.

Yes $200 cheaper is just for the tires. Price from dealer is out the door, mounted and balanced. Does not include lifetime balance or road hazard, that would be another $113
For me it might actually be quicker to do it myself. Tire shop is 45 minutes each way and I usually end spending 2-3 hours in their waiting room, even if I make an appointment.

Last time I inquired they wanted almost $50 each to mount and balance if you bring in the tires. Free if you buy the tires from them.

Find an independent shop - not a dealership and not a tire shop. Tire shops charge $35 each tire here. Independent shop has trained technicians instead of dolts hired off the street and charges less.
