I recently took my 04 Tacoma SR5 to the body shop for a paint job in order to fix several dings and I got a call this morning from the shop indicating that they couldn't find replacement emblems. I saw some older threads on this subject but I just wanted to see if any of you guys had any suggestions. They told me they had the door emblems ordered but the small cab SR5 and the tailgate emblems were problematic if not impossible to find unless you wanted to pay out the nose. Any help would be appreciated. I also posted some progress photos for y'all to view.

i read somewhere on TW that those emblems are quite easy to remove and reapply if not already damaged :notsure:

The shop is correct. It's getting more and more difficult to find new OEM emblems for these. You'll have to pay to play kinda thing. Those that have the new ones to sell usually know darn well what they have and price it accordingly. Only real option is to shop around. Only way to get a great price on em would be to find someone didn't know what they had and buy them.
Good luck in your search. Your Tacoma is looking good man:cool:

this day and age i would think the 3-D printing tech could be an option or just around the corner?

I ordered these from Amazon. Top is original bottom is replacements. Size Is identical, font is very close. Self adhesive chromed plastic. They have held up well after one year. I would use an S instead of the 5Screenshot_2020-02-25-19-15-11-1.jpg 2019-05-28 15.06.16_resized (1).jpg

My painter said the “soft” emblems are impossible to reuse. I read somewhere on Tacoma World that an option is purchasing the 4Runner emblems and only use the sr5 portion. I just had mine repainted and decided to go badgeless. There is a guy on this site that can make vinyl ones if you’d like.

    Go for the stealth look.

You know it's an SR5 Tacoma, who cares if grandma sitting next to you at a stop light does?

Also, are they not going to remove the bed liner/cover before they paint?

i may like the looks on my truck of these, they were not included (don't exactly know why!?), but would like to see them on up close inspection, preferably on black

I bought a couple SR5 "soft" badges a few years ago. At the time PT211-SR982 was available for notalot from a number of sources. It indeed looks like they've all disappeared since then.

There's almost enough margin in the pricing being asked to commission a new production run!

Were I in the market, I'd probably consider "flat" cut vinyl film badges as an alternative.

You guys are not going to believe this!!! I picked up my tacoma from the body shop on Wednesday and yesterday I decided to run a few errands. While topping her off with fuel a lady backed into my drivers side rear quarter panel!! Less than 24 hours after picking up the truck and now it's going back in the shop...unbelievable!!

What a shame. On a positive note, it looks pretty minimal.

on the bright side it was just an a minor fender bender and nobody was injured except for my old girl.....back to my initial question....what do you guys think about these as an alternative option for the tailgate emblem replacements?

My emblems were cracked and missing in some spots, had a local wrap/vinyl/sign shop make me some replacements in matte black. Charged me $30 for the two SR5's, two "Toyota Tacoma"'s on the doors, and the Toyota Tacoma on the tailgate. If you dont mind the non-raised emblem, that may be a viable option. Otherwise, I don't think the second gen emblems would look bad!

my body shop guy brought that option up to me as well and I'm seriously considering it.

    OME and worth every penny.
This is what happens to me EVERYTIME I get paint jobs on a vehicle. Somebody (or me) wrecks it.

I heard some jackass snapped to the supply of SR5 emblems and bought them ALL. Every one he could find because he knew there would be a coming restoration storm on Taco's. Kinda like back in the '90s before the aftermarket started making first Gen Camaro badges. Z/28 style script were 100's of bucks a piece.
