Drove for two days with the lower half of the flag pole installed. It holds up at 135 km/h with no issues. Turned on lane departure alert for a while (usually turned off in my daily commute) and it worked as normal with no false alarms.

Gonna try the upper half when the snow passes, but will need to be mindful of the 13-ft overall height vs. overpasses. HTA limit for trucks is 13.6 ft, so it should be OK :notsure:

Lately I haven't seen any case where Toyota-branded parts online ended up cheaper than the local dealer parts counter.

I don't worry about Toyota branded parts... I happily paid $26 for a center driveshaft carrier bearing from Rock Auto, as opposed to $300 from Toyota. It's obviously built way cheaper, but if it lasts 3 or 4 years, I think I got my money's worth...

    You are a hero.

Thanks for the heads up about it, i guess if there is enough interest (i have small 4 brackets that could use the powder coat, and maybe the sso bumper (which means i'd need to strip it entirely clean and that's gonna be a tough one...)) we'll just set up a group chat to figure who needs what done and go from there

0/10 instructions unclear, got dick caught in the ceiling fan

jokes aside though, I would need to bribe someone or have an external sandblaster for the bumper as its not a small thing and i don't think it fits in most units

I’m sure you have someone local. Got my front bumper blasted and painted a while back for $200-300 in Milton. They used an epoxy paint so it was more expensive compared to powder coat.

I have a sand blaster and thought it'd be a great idea to use the garage of the house I was selling (closing date was the following day).
The unit I bought from Princess Auto did a fairly good job, but holy shit what a mess!!!
I ended up leaving the bumper bare and let mother patina take over - now my sliders and rear bumper match!
My front bumper was powder coated when I got it, so it doesn't match everything else...

So to get to my point, get someone else to do it! Or have a nice contained area to perform the task to minimise cleanup.
There are a couple of shops near me that will do both sand blasting and finishing.
That's the route I'll go if I ever decide to give up the patina look.

Sorry to hear of your ceiling fan accident. Was it business or pleasure?

I've done a bunch of sandblasting in my driveway. If you clean up the mess you can use my sandblaster. Bring your safety specs, mask and blasting media.

Completely unrelated to sandblasting and what not....anyone know where I can get light bar brackets without spending 60 bucks USD from Cali Raised? I mean if I have to, well I guess I have to. Just figured I ask the pros first!

that $60USD ends up a bit over $120 CAD so you know, at least after my shipping and handling :bananadead:

my tip is; "order as a combo" from them and grab a tall or a small switch, it's a bastard to get a decent (small) one off of amazoom (ordered blue backlight and got amber) but my light bar itself is also from amazoom as i wanted to test it out to see if i like the idea (which i do, it's useful for me).

Or you can zip tie-it like i did, 32 inch bar and 4 zip-ties are the perfect length to grab onto the lower grille!
    IMG_20190912_182631.jpg

naa, kidding i love the bracket, fits great.

after you brought up epoxy painting, i'm considering it since it might be a little durable over the life of the bumper than the powder coat. the brackets however i don't think i'd need to epoxy coat.

yeaaah worked on a bridge rehab job, where the guys used a pretty hardcore sandblaster to clear off the rust from the tie-ins on the bridge, gets messy quick

    IMG_20160714_145915.jpg

    pleasure

i might take you up on that offer since i'm planning on stripping the current paint/ coating that is currently chipping off.

Yeah if you have a spot in the US that is a short drive and you do some groceries while you're there, it makes it worth it.

As i do have the Cali-raised brackets, i technically have the template too. if you have some sheet metal and some cutting tools, it's possible for me to take the brackets off, trace em and hand it off to you to cut and fab yourself. might be cheaper that way, might not be as we're talking about being cheaper than $80 for the cali-bracket that's also coated (if you pick it up in the US)

ask the other guys, i think there are 2 or 3 of us with the cali-raised bracket. Mind you, the cali-raised bracket ties into the frame which prevents it from wiggling around and you NEED A 32 INCH BAR FOR IT TO FIT. OTHERWISE YOUR SOL.

    HOWEVER, following this guide (i followed it for the wiring);
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/30-light-bar-install-easier-than-you-might-think.406194/

you can mount the bar in the same spot as this guy did, where the mounting tabs that should have came with the light bar bolt straight to the plastic of the truck, 2-4 small holes that you can even riv-nut and bolt together, that will hold it well enough in place. You get the exact same result but for the cost of stuff you already have. if it wiggles a tiny bit, you probably won't notice it or you can add in larger washers.

the sooner you put holes into the plastic, the easier modding will be in the future.
Remember that everything is superficial and short term, no use crying and worrying over it as long as your work looks OEM, not a soul will question it.

The same shitty aftermarket brand now costs $76 for the 3rd gen version (larger shaft dia than 2nd gen). Hopefully Rock Auto will have the Dana/Spicer part listed by the time I need one...

    Hello Everyone,

I have noticed our name been thrown around here and we have been sending lots of products to Ontario. Do you guys have any local shops that are more Toyota specific which I can reach out to? I am looking for a shop to help supply our products so you don't have to deal with shipping and fees and well all of you know all the other pains haha. Thanks
