This reminds me of my dog Eddie. He is a Beagle/Border Collie cross just turned two years. We live in wild country with a couple hundred deer & elk, coyotes, cougars, bobcats, wolves and foxes in the backyard. At first Eddie was gone as soon as he saw a deer into the thick bush. I worried because first I don't want my dogs chasing deer, but also because I would be looking west where I last saw him go and he would eventually come back from the east where I had no idea he even was. Once something very wild and mean took after him and all I heard was him screaming into the distance. Luckily I purchased a simple GPS Tracker which saved his life that day. I was able to see exactly where he was and rode my ATV right to him and scared off the predator which I never saw.

I have no problem recommending this to anyone. It uses cell phone gps technology and an App on your phone. Its about the size of a small pager and straps onto the collar and is rechargable. The clip which comes with it is garbage. I made a cloth one which the collar treads trough and I wrap packing tape around it each time we go out. He once lost it at night when the velcro came open and I was able to go find it in the dark in the snow where it fell out of the pouch. You can activate a flashing light and buzzer from your app to help you find it. Its accurate most times to about 20 feet and has a 10-20 second lag occasionally. Uses Google Maps. It costs about $60USD to purchase and $60 per year for the cell subscription. As long as you have cell coverage it works great. www.my.tractive.com. You can also get it on Amazon. If your interested- let me refer you and you get 15% off & I get a free month. Send me a message and I will send the referral after your permission.

Here is Eddie after a successful Grouse hunt. He found the Grouse and proudly brought it back for me. He's a hunter. You can see the Tracker on his collar.

Here is a history shot of Eddie and me and the ATV out over the past three days. Our place is 1/2 a mile wide and one mile long mostly bush. Knowing exactly where he is takes so much stress away from me. As he gets older he is not taking off as much and now he realizes it's more fun to stay close.

    Thats awesome.

    Mmmm grouse.
    Mountain chicken out here.

    Love the history shot!

I could use one of those at times with some dogs.
    Besides birds,
I train them to hunt deer, bucks in particular, and that first time they take off on their own is ALWAYS stressful to me.

Luckily my dogs have been very good about coming off the chase and coming right back.

Now the old man, max, who just passed away, he needed one everywhere except deer camp!
I dont know what his problem was but if I turned my back on him anywhere but camp THAT DOG WAS GONE!

Cant tell you how many times I had to track HIM down.

It was funny, the last time he took off at home I just walked across the field, headed him off up the fence and was waiting when he got there haha
At least I can still outrun a 14yr old dog lol

    Good info thanks

    Gettin it done shots

This is his reaction to me returning to the truck after a successful hunt on foot without him.

    He could smell buck.

Took off like a rocket and backtracked me, nose to the ground, the instant I dropped the tailgate, unclipped him and gave him the command.

He has a strike bark like a baying hound.

Picking up our second doodle Saturday.
Does anyone have recommendations for a dual dog leash? Both doodles will be around 65lbs

130 pounds of doodles means forget the dual leash, worry about Motrin and repetitive shoulder injury. That's a lot of torque on 8 legs.

My niece has something from Petsmart that is a simply swivel that connects to 2 6' leads that works for her lab and ridgeback. The most important addition to those leads, those, are Halti face collars. They keep her dogs (collective weight 150) from pulling too hard. Her 8 year-old can walk them without fear of becoming road rash.

I remember the 1st time my brother wanted to bring his untrained doodle on a pheasant hunt to gain experience.
They were breeding them and they were just becoming a thing...

I told him he could bring him, but he'd have to crate him.
Im not driving him around pheasant country with one of "those" in the back of my truck haha

We dont crate our dogs. I was just giving him a bad time.

Got a lot of weird looks on the road and in the field.
Also got a lot of questions and interest and he got us a rooster all by himself.
