People have no chill. I said way back on the first page I was gonna get a smaller trailer around 3k. I will settle for a smaller trailer, I would regret selling my Tacoma. This 3k trailer will be towed to a location and sit still for 3 months at a time. Having a smaller trailer doesn’t bother us because of the amount we plan on being outside. This whole thing is to get away from the traditional life for a bit, even if that’s only for a year. We passed this opportunity up a few years ago and have been asking ourselves “what if” ever since. Thanks everyone for your real experiences and advice.

Honestly, a 4,500lb dual axle trailer is going to tow better than a 3,000lb single axle trailer and, unless you are running larger tires I'd immediately discount anyone that is running 285s (or even 255s) and saying a 4,500lb trailer is too heavy.

I wouldn't even trust a f150 to pull my dirtbike on a utility trailer. Garbage drivetrains for towing

Thanks, it works pretty well. If I were to do it again I’d probably get a pop up a frame camper so it was a little bit more aerodynamic for those windy days.

The Tacoma was really built to tow 3500 lbs safely. The sales guys made up the 6800 lb number to keep up with the competition. No motor upgrade, no brake upgrades, nothing. Just some dumb tiny coolers and a rusty hitch in a "towing package". But some of y'all drank the koolaid and went full retard and actually tried it. Remember you're not putting just yourself at risk, but everyone around you on the road as well when you go full retard. Don't go full retard. Buy a bigger truck if you're towing that heavy. :boink::cheers:

I pull about 3500# camper loaded it's two axle. Frankly that's about all I would want. Without a doubt you need to make sure you have a good working trailer braking system first and foremost. The Tacoma is not real heavy you don't want to get into the situation of the tail wagging the dog. Yes I have no doubt I could pull 10,000 pounds but sure as hell I not going anywhere with it.

I have been towing a 2006 Casita 17 ft Spirit Deluxe travel trailer for 9 yrs with my 06 4x4 tacoma or acc, and it does it ok, but is hard on brakes, 13 mpg which is not bad towing, I am running rancho quicklift RS9000 shocks, rear supersprings for tongue weight of trailer, but I have come to the conclusion that I will be buying a new 2020, Tundra TRD Pro dbl cab 6.7 ft bed for future towing, camping, etc. Way larger brakes, much more power, will just have to be light on the throttle unloaded local so I get decent mpg if you can call tundra mpg decent. A Tacoma is very marginal for towing trailers over 3,000 lbs. Despite the advertised tow rating.

No troll, just kidding, there are a few pics of my setup in this thread.

My truck, deep in Moab UT.
Good luck with all of your trucks and trailers.
    Take care my TW brothers.

I’ve been towing a 3500lbs trailer for the last year in my 2019. There are plenty of trailers in that range. Enjoy the adventure!

Most people that pull trailers have enough sense not to lift their trucks.
