So i just purchased a 2020 Tacoma and first thing I ordered was a StartX remote start kit from Amazon. I have an Hkey SR5. It works fine but one issue I had was that if I put the key in the ignition but did not press my foot on the brake pedal right away (which disables the remote start system for takeover) I would get a TPMS Warning pop up on the Entune screen. This was really annoying and I contacted support and they just said it was the way it was and if I wanted to return it I should just do that.

Well I figured I could just come up with a better solution. I got 2x 12v relays and wired them to the TPMS wires that need to be cut. The default closed circuit goes to from the truck TPMS wires into the remote start (Pin 30 to 87a). Then I wired both pins 87 together to complete the TPMS circuit when the relays receive power. So when the key is set to the on position pins 87a gets turned off and pins 87 on removing the TPMS system from the remote start and the truck is now wired like factory.

Anyways I documented my steps if anyone else wants try this. No more annoying TPMS warning on screen!

The only factory wire that had to be cut was the TPMS wire. If I remove everything there is just one wire to solder back together. I can hide it with shrink tubing and tape it up to look like the loom. All the other wires are just bolted to a ground location and using a fuse tap for power. You have to cut the TPMS wire to use any remote start on a Hkey 3rd gen if you want to use the factory FOB.

Doubtful, cars are full of hundreds of relays. I am not sending any power into the TPMS signal. The relay just removes the TPMS circuit from the remote starter.

I don't have the StartX, rather I have the N2 designs unit. From what I know, most vendors are utilizing the same "remote start unit". FWIW, my unit's operation is: 3 lock press to remote start, insert key and turn two clicks, then tap the brake pedal. Once I do that, the TPMS goes away. I didn't have to do anything with a relay.

My issue is that if that I put the key in and don't tap the brakes in like 5 seconds then I get a warning on the entune screen. The blinking TPMS light doesnt bother me. Maybe this is not an issue on the 2016-2019.

I get a message on entune as well, but it won't pop up until my key is in the ignition with the two clicks. When I do the sequence, it goes away. And I do have a 2020 as well. I'll start my truck for about two minutes before I hop in, then when i get in, key in --> entune TPMS message --> brake --> gone.

Gotcha, well I didn't like the entune message. I had some extra relays laying around so figured I would give it a try. My entune message doesn't go away, I have to hit okay for it to clear and it gets logged as an issue. No longer a problem.

I won't chop factory wiring. I'd rather buy the factory connectors and make a p'n'p harness that can be removed without the need to repair wiring.

You have to tap the TPMS wire if you want to use the factory fob with a physical key tacoma. You can pay extra for an additional remote start clicker. I don't believe you have to cut anything if you have a push to start tacoma. Everything else was plug in play. I would prefer to not have to cut any wires on my brand new truck but you have to pay to play.

You don't have to cut anything. You could de-pin and create your own harness. It's more work, but it's reversible. Anyways... Differing school of thought: I simply wouldn't cut into my factory harness in case I ever needed to 100% reverse something.

Bigmace, I followed you instructions and did this on my 2021 Tundra. Worked great no more errors. Only issue is now my key fob won't unlock the doors when I use the remote start.
Did you have this issue? Worst case I will leave it and use the key, better than having the TPMS error.

Sorry, I am not familiar with the Tundra so can't help you there. Might just be the way the tundra is set up. Basically all my fix does is trick the Tacoma wiring back to go back "stock" after the remote start is initiated because the TPMS wire signal no longer goes through the remote start module.

I wonder if the n2design remote start suffers from this Tpms warning issue.
