The pickins on Craigslist in my area are pretty slim, but every now and then one pops up in the right price range. I am having trouble pulling the trigger because I don’t want to make an hour drive, one way, just to find that the canopy doesn’t fit!

Is there a particular make and model of canopy that I should be on the lookout for? Or should I be trusting the measurements people on Craigslist are providing? What is the price range I should be expecting to pay?

    Thanks!

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I think the 2nd Gen reg-cabs have their own dimensions for camper shells. So neither an access cab or double cab (long or short bed) shell will fit. Seems like it will be straight forward, but it will be more difficult to find as you have already seen.

That was the impression I got just from talking to a buddy, so it’s good to have my suspicions confirmed at least. Thanks!

I am not 100% but I think the bed itself is identical, but it’s where the front of the cap meets the back of the cab that has different geometry. The reg cabs are more straight in profile than the curved access and double cabs.

edit: looking at your reg cab picture and my access cab out the window it seems that straight vs curved thing continues down into the front of the bed itself, so maybe they are altogether different after all.

Yes, the back of the cab is different shaped so the AC/ DC models won't fit quite right. I have an AC model topper on my RC and I don't mind given that I got such a great deal on it. I'll get you a pic up here
Edit- the beds are identical between the trucks, the only difference is the lines on the rear of the cab.

Here ya go. I think it looks fine. Doesn't leak anywhere up front either, just the windoors leak when it really starts raining.

you are correct. OP id look for a reg cab cap specifically or a contractor cap - which is already vertical so they can fit multiple vehicles with similar bed dimensions.
