Do I need to get an alignment afterwards?

Yes you most definitely will need an alignment after doing the tie rods. No matter how closely you install them compared to the original ones your alignment will be whack afterward. I would try and find an alignment shop not too far from home if you're installing them yourself.

I set the toe in with a carpenters folding rule, was spot on. Never needed to adjust caster or camber but my Tacos stock suspension.
Did I screw up? Tire wear and tracking hasn't been a problem.

I guess I probably shouldn't say that it "will be" whack afterward...of course you can get it close or even spot on by yourself. When I replaced my tie rods (with OEM outers, 555 inners) I counted the exact number of threads on them when taking the old ones off and put the new ones on exactly the same...still had my toe wayyyyy off afterward and my wheel was at the 3 o'clock position going straight lol. I may very well have miscounted though who knows, the alignment shop got it set right though

Even if it does drive straight and no signs of wear I'd still want to have a shop check it for my own peace of mind but that's me...I would just use my worthless Firestone lifetime package to have them give me a printout lol.

If you're happy with how it drives and don't have tire wear issues I wouldn't worry about it.

I have done multiple tape measure toe sets and ran em without worrying. I also appall some of the "by the book" boys :D
