Are HF mobiles not a thing? None of the mobiles I see people talking about a lot seem to have them.

Probably because the people using handhelds tend to be in lower classes that stick to VHF? I'd imagine that if the demand was there, they'd be a thing.

Oh, mobiles. My 8900 is,and the 891 and 710 are I think as well.

I am taking my test Saturday, and I am a noob. Doing some research for possible future purchases.

I guess my question would be better worded like this. What mobiles can do, HF, VHF, and UHF in one unit? With APRS. I plan on getting my general license eventually and if I am gonna drop big bucks on a mobile, I want it to do everything I might want to do in the future.

I call BS on this one. I was on a road trip a year ago and received so many strange packets from you on my rig.

I am moving to Vegas in April. We can play with mobile radio stuff when I get there if you want.

It’s okay. My dad sends “oatmeal” via SMSGTE to me when he sees that I am off-roading on APRS.fi

Outside of the 7100 857 and 891 what is there really for ideal current mobile hf rigs?

I forgot to add. I don't have my radio on all the time but we can definitely setup some time to do some conversing.

    That would be aprs.fi
Pretty neat tool, it shows you all the transmitting aprs beacons and you can even enter a callsign and track it

Go hunting on 2M for a “net” and give your call sign at the start. Or find an contact on some repeaters and tell them you are a new ham...they will help you!
